🚀 Exciting Developments with the CAPS Program at Middleton High School! 🚀 Recently the NHTI met with The Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS) who is doing incredible work across our region, coordinating job and internship opportunities for high school students in high-demand fields like medical, engineering, and software development. CAPS not only connects students with meaningful work but also empowers them to explore career paths early on. Two Key CAPS Initiatives: 1. Micro-Internships: Short-term, structured programs that give students hands-on entrepreneurial experiences. 2. Longer-Term Internships: Programs that are still in development, aimed at deeper professional exposure. There is exciting potential for CAPS to expand capacity in areas like day-long trips to StartingBlock for students to work with entrepreneurs and explore frameworks like the Business Model Canvas. This longer-term goal could bring invaluable experience to students interested in business and innovation. Additionally, there’s interest in developing a larger budget for paid internships within the community. This would open doors for students to gain practical, paid experience in various fields, enhancing career readiness and skill-building. #TheNHTI #100State #FoundersCircleIgnite #BusinessInnovation #Empowerment

District C was featured in the latest American Student Assistance report: "Building Bridges Between Education and Industry: Youth Work-Based Learning as Talent Development Strategy." More businesses are beginning to recognize the value of opening their hiring funnels even earlier than the traditional university internship. We saw this vision back in 2016, when our founder and CEO, Dan Gonzalez, launched Teamship. Since then, there’s been a moderate increase in the number of businesses offering high school internships, from 30% in 2018 to 38% in 2023. While we know there are more opportunities out there, challenges such as navigating high school students’ schedules and finding suitable work make it difficult to engage. That’s where Teamship comes in—we work with school districts to create team-based learning opportunities that seamlessly integrate into students’ schedules. We’re thrilled to see the rise in high school internships, but we know there’s much more work to be done in expanding these opportunities for young, diverse talent. At this week’s Inside Higher Education US Student Success Summit at UT-Knoxville, we dove deep into the future of internships and their transformative impact! Candace Williams from the Business-Higher Education Forum and Beau Boice from Strada Education Foundation led a dynamic discussion on scaling internships. Here are some key insights they shared: ✨ The Value of Internships for Employers: Internships go beyond recruitment; they’re about connecting with emerging talent, tapping into fresh perspectives, and strengthening pipelines with diverse, skilled learners ready to contribute today. 📊 Addressing the Internship Gap: Did you know that last year, 4.6 million students sought internships but didn’t secure one? This is especially true for learners of color, first-gen, low-income, and community college students. It’s a gap we’re committed to closing. 🤝 Breaking Down Barriers Together: Employers face real challenges in expanding internship programs, but collaboration is key. By working together, we can create new, flexible internship models that meet business needs and empower learners. Thank you to all the leaders who joined us in this essential conversation and to those partnering with us to build equitable, work-based learning models that prepare learners for the future of work! 🌟 #StudentSuccess #Internships #FutureOfWork

OK, now for the Edtech Externship updates. First, I owe you all a HUGE thank you! I mentioned in my previous post that I was incredibly nervous to share what we've been building, but the response we got was better than we could have ever expected! -We have enrolled an incredibly diverse group of Externs--they're from all around the country (and the world!), have between 5 & 25 years of experience, and are interested in building careers at SO many different edtech companies. -Our partnerships are expanding! We've been contacted by and reached out to folks at some really exciting edtech companies, both brand new start-ups and what we would consider titans in the industry 👀 ✨What we still need ➡️ we have TWO more spots left for teachers looking to transition into edtech careers. Please feel free to share our site with anyone you think is a good fit! https://lnkd.in/ePUvEFa9 ➡️We still need organizational partners! We've been able to arrange some incredible internship opportunities with our current partners, but have a new goal of securing internships for at least half of our participants🫣 If you have a need or know of somebody who does, please send them our way! Our interns are well-prepared to make immediate impact! #edtech #careerdevelopment #teachers

The upcoming Inside Higher Ed webinar, "Internships Don’t Scale: Combining Industry Immersion with Study Away," is scheduled for November 26, 2024, at 1:00 PM EST, addresses the growing demand for work-integrated and industry-immersive learning experiences. Research indicates that such opportunities can double students' chances of future success. However, with 8.2 million U.S. college students seeking internships in 2024 and only 2.5 million securing quality positions, there's a significant gap between demand and availability. This event will feature insights from Brandon Busteed, CEO of BrandEd; Seth Bodnar, President of the University of Montana; Kristen D. Fox, CEO of the Business-Higher Education Forum; and Autumn Beechler Stebing, Director of Education Abroad at Case Western Reserve University. They will discuss effective attributes of work-integrated learning, strategies to scale these opportunities beyond traditional internships, and the benefits of combining study away programs with industry immersion. CapSource specializes in connecting educational institutions with global industry partners to facilitate experiential learning through real-world projects. The webinar's focus on scalable industry immersion aligns with our mission to bridge the gap between academia and industry. By leveraging our platform, institutions like our clients at the University of Montana, can provide students with practical experiences that enhance their education and career readiness, addressing the challenges highlighted in the webinar. https://lnkd.in/grYS6g-m

🌊 The Wave of High School Micro-Internships is Here—Are You Ready? In speaking with local businesses and community leaders, it's clear: high school internships are a new concept for many. A recent visit with Calamos Investments with our Naperville District 203 Career Internship Program students underscored a powerful truth—innovation waves are hitting faster and with greater impact each time. As innovation waves move faster, knowledge moves at lightning speed. This gives our teen learners more access to information than ever before. 📈 Internships provide invaluable, real-world learning experiences. Traditionally, a major critique of secondary education is its disconnect from real-world applications. But with information arriving faster, young people today are more curious, engaged, and eager to make a meaningful impact now—not later. Just ask Jake Bjorseth! Our students don't want to wait to learn and problem solve. They want to intern early, and they’re ready to contribute value. These experiences don’t need to be extensive or highly structured; they can take the form of micro-internships—small projects, mentorships, and immersive job shadows that create real learning moments. To businesses and community organizations, I encourage you to connect with your local school boards and administrators. Find that common ground where education meets your community. Let’s work together to create learning opportunities for students, teachers, and community members alike. The high school micro-internship wave has arrived. Are you ready to ride it? 🌊 Reach out to me if you want to learn more! #EducationInnovation #MicroInternships #FutureWorkforce #CommunityEngagement
