Advice for Cambodia! Strengthen Historical Research: Cambodia should thoroughly examine historical treaties, maps, and documents to build a strong case for its claims, if it wishes to pursue this matter further. International Partnerships: Engaging with international legal experts and organizations can help Cambodia advocate for its territorial rights effectively. Public Awareness: Educating Cambodians about historical treaties and border issues is vital to ensure unity and support for the country’s position.

Very happy to see this out on #WorldRefugeeDay! In our piece, Eleonora Milazzo, PhD and I argue that argue that the EU approach to cooperation with 3rd countries in the #NewPact on #migration and #asylum and beyond falls short of ensuring adequate protection of refugees and to pursue genuinely balanced partnerships based on mutual interests. We recommend policy-makers and authorities implementing the new rules to: 📌 Put fundamental rights at the centre of any form of cooperation with third countries, through rigorous impact assessment, monitoring, and explicit human rights conditionality; 📌 Prioritise funding projects in third countries with a protection component or which facilitate legal migration over those with a containment objective; 📌 Avoid entering into partnerships with autocratic and highly unstable regimes; 📌 Take into account the interests of third countries when negotiating partnerships, and avoid prioritising deterrence and return at the expense of other foreign policy objectives; 📌 Engage more with the evidence on the drivers of migration before formulating and implementing policies to contain migration. The policy study is part of a series developed by the European Policy Centre and the Odysseus Academic Network for Legal Studies on Immigration and Asylum in Europe in collaboration with FEPS Europe and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung. 🚨 NEW PUBLICATION | Responsibility sharing or shifting? Implications of the New Pact for future EU cooperation with third countries “In the field of migration management, asymmetric dependencies on third countries combined with lack of trust and robust internal responsibility sharing are likely to reinforce each other.” Read Andreina De Leo & Eleonora Milazzo, PhD’s Policy Study on the implications of the New Pact for the future of cooperation with third countries, developed in collaboration with FEPS Europe and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, here 👇

I combine insights from law, sociology, political science, social psychology, theology, philosophy, and more, testing these against EU asylum policy, to provide a more integral understanding of solidarity in the EU that can be employed across disciplines. I aim to reduce uncertainty around the application of the concept and inform policymakers, jurisdiction as well as the academic debate.
Very proud to announce my open access publication in Theory and Society where I propose an interdisciplinary analytical framework for #Solidarity in the #EU that is based on a conceptual history approach, buttressed with legal analysis and an examination of European integration. https://lnkd.in/gXihz8fR
