It’s been a big 9 days as I’ve moved the family to Tkaronto (temporarily) for the next two months. It’s challenging and uncomfortable, but I know I’m so lucky to have my family with me this work trip as they too live and play on unseeded land so far from home. This is our second stint in the last 12months in Turtle Island with many trips back and forth in between. Travelling alone is certainly challenging, especially for me where I get so much love, energy and support from my family. While I’ve always known this, when I was working in schools I often took it for granted; leaving in the dark and arriving the same. Now…older and much wiser, I recognise and don’t compromise on what’s important to me. That means we need to be together. That means, I sometimes have to say no when it’s not what’s best for me and my family..and that’s ok. That means I need to be a mum and a professional; feeding my mind and soul. I recognise I’ve grown as a leader and know myself so much more when I do say no. So my top 3 takeaways from this? 1. Say no when it doesn’t serve you. 2. Know what you’re not prepared to compromise on. 3.
