Charitably inclined individuals should be aware of groups that are masquerading as charitable organizations to attract donations. The fraudsters use fake charities as cover to not only obtain money, but also gather sensitive personal and financial information that can be exploited for tax-related identity fraud. When taxpayers contribute to an organization, they may qualify for a tax deduction, but only if they itemize their deductions. To qualify for a deduction, the charity must be an IRS-recognized tax-exempt organization. Donors should check the IRS’s Tax Exempt Organization Search online tool to ensure the legitimacy of a charity. For more details: https://bit.ly/3PVQwWh #FakeCharities #TaxFraud #IdentityTheft

🔍 Spotting a Fake Charity After Hurricanes Helene & Milton: *Look for Transparency: Legitimate charities will provide clear and transparent information about their operations and financials. *Avoid Suspicious Payment Methods: Don’t send donations via cash, wire transfer, or gift cards—these methods are hard to trace and often linked to scams. *Trust but Verify: Check if the charity is registered with the IRS or other regulatory bodies. You can search the IRS database for tax-exempt organizations or use sites like Charity Navigator to ensure you’re giving to a legitimate cause. Don’t let scammers profit from your generosity—give smart and give safe! #HurricaneScams #FakeCharities #ResTechSolutions
