Biodiversity loss impacts us all 🦇🌍. A recent study shows how declining bat populations, caused by white-nose syndrome, lead to increased pesticide use and health risks, including higher infant mortality rates. Protecting bats is crucial for healthier ecosystems and communities. Read more about this groundbreaking research here: https://bit.ly/4gjIsK5. 🌱 #Biodiversity #PublicHealth #Sustainability

#DYK Raising animals for food takes up half of all water used in the U.S. Plant-based meat uses 72%–99% less water than conventional meat (l-water/kg-meat). Meat has myriad impacts, from increased risk of obesity, cardiovascular disease, and cancer, to environmental pollution, increased emissions, and biodiversity loss. Including a climate warning label on meat dishes in a U.K. experiment reduced how often participants chose meat by 7.4%, according to a new study published in the journal Appetite. Not only that, but the research suggests people would be okay with a policy requiring these types of labels. It’s World Environment Day! 🌍 Celebrated annually on June 5th, World Environment Day was established by the UN to help raise awareness of the importance of protecting our planet. As our global population grows, so does the impact on our planet – but there are lots of things we can all do to help reduce the burden on the environment. 💚 One of the easiest ways to reduce our carbon footprint is by changing the way we eat! Shifting to a more plant-based diet can help solve many of the global problems affecting the world, from freeing up land use to grow crops for human consumption to reducing the likelihood of zoonotic diseases. Read more about the positive effects a plant-based diet has on the environment on our blog. Link below. ⬇️ https://hubs.ly/Q02zqSPx0 #ProVeg #ProEnvironment #WorldEnvironmentDay

A new study reveals that the drastic drop in vulture populations in India, caused by diclofenac poisoning, is linked to up to 500,000 premature deaths between 2000-2005. Vultures play a crucial role in managing disease by consuming dead animals, thus preventing the spread of illness from other scavengers. This highlights the vital connection between biodiversity and human health. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/g-KGEg75 #Biodiversity #PublicHealth #Conservation #Sustainability #newzchain

Today we celebrate the International Day of Plant Health! 🌱 According to FAO, plants are the biggest contributor in the production of oxygen, accounting for 98% of the total amount on Earth. At Rovensa, we work everyday to protect plants and ensuring their health. Healthy plants are essential to help to feed the planet, reducing poverty, protecting biodiversity and the environment, and foster economic development. #InternationalDayofPlantHealth #SustainableAgriculture #WellBalancedAgriculture

🌱 On the International Day for Biological Diversity, let's celebrate the rich variety of life on our planet and explore its crucial link to one of our biggest health challenges: antimicrobial resistance (AMR) 🦠🌿 Did you know over 5 million deaths each year are due to AMR? Projections suggest 50 million deaths in the coming decades. Protecting biodiversity is a key part of the solution! Here’s how biodiversity helps combat AMR: 🟢 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: diverse ecosystems keep harmful bacteria in check. Destroying habitats disrupts this balance, letting antibiotic-resistant bacteria thrive 🌸 🟢 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: protecting natural habitats reduces pollution from industrial agriculture and pharmaceuticals and the spread of resistant bacteria 🏞️ 🟢 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵: human health is linked to animal and environmental health. Preserving biodiversity means healthier ecosystems and healthier humans 🌍 📖 Learn more from our report "Untangling Antimicrobial Resistance. 🚨 We MUST Protect Nature to Protect Ourselves🚨 New research reveals a chilling truth: the loss of biodiversity is hitting humanity where it hurts most—our health and survival. In US counties where insect-eating bats declined due to white-nose syndrome, insect populations surged. Farmers, left with no choice, increased pesticide use by *31%*. The tragic outcome? *An 8% rise in infant mortality* as toxic chemicals entered the environment. This isn't just an economic issue—it’s about human lives. The agricultural sector suffered *$26.9 billion* in losses, but the real cost is in the irreversible damage to health and ecosystems. We need to realize that nature *underpins* all of our man-made systems. If we don’t transform our economic approach—which, as Derrick Jensen rightly describe as, “…a system by which the living is converted into the dead.”— we will continue to destroy the very foundation of our existence. Protecting nature is protecting *us*. It’s not a choice, it’s a necessity. 🌍 - link to research - https://lnkd.in/dPhxHCmQ #ProtectNature #BiodiversityCrisis #HumanHealth #ConservationNow #SaveTheBats #EcoEconomy #SystemChange #NatureIsLife

Understanding the 3 Health Impacts of Environmental Degradation 🦠🪵 Health and the environment are inextricably linked. While nature has long been recognized for its ability to heal our mental well-being, continuing environmental degradation poses a significant threat to human health and our ecosystems' delicate balance. 😷 Increased Risk of Infectious Diseases As natural habitats dwindle, wildlife is forced to seek new territories, increasing interactions between humans and animals. This heightened contact raises the risk of zoonotic diseases, novel pathogens that can jump from animals to humans. 😷 Nutritional Deficiencies and Food Insecurity The loss of biodiversity and the deterioration of environmental conditions profoundly impact agriculture. These factors affect insect pollination, soil health, pest control, and crop yields, leading to nutritional deficiencies and food insecurity. 😷 Loss of Potential Medicines Over 10,000 plant species are used to develop modern medicines and nutritional supplements. However, as environmental degradation continues, the availability of these natural extracts declines. In fact, due to the loss of biodiversity, we lose a critical medicine every two years. source: Bupa's website Join us in reducing noise pollution and conserving the planet together: https://lnkd.in/geccjXrz #RTacoustic #SoundSolutions #AcousticSolutions #sustainability #Wellbeing
