I ran a great webinar with sheep and beef farmers this week thanks to Beef + Lamb New Zealand . Some fantastic questions and comments from farmers including this one - "..... we need to remember to keep our priorities in the sights". When we are in the thick of farming, it is so easy to become so absorbed in the day to day and lose sight of what you are actually trying to achieve, what matters and what should be the priority. I call this the "farming bubble" that we sometime start to live in. This can lead to a very non-strategic or unfocused approach to your farm business which is not good for you, your team or your farm. #theleanfarmproject #leanfarm #strategicthinking #eliminatewaste #performance #challengethestatusquo Thanks Beef + Lamb New Zealand

Its not a legal technicality, its an environmental bottom line that provides clarity, certainty and efficiency to the issue of non-point source discharges. Farmers including me, had to apply for resource consents to farm for almost a decade. Why should Southland farmers not be required to internalize the costs of their externalities? Why should those who degrade the quality of the right (to clean rivers) of others not be required to gain permission to do so and be tied to enforceable consent conditions like those of us in canterbury? My only gripe is that farming activities should not be singled out. Golf courses, equestrian activities, and residential areas with lawns and gardens should also have to have enforceable and monitored discharge consents. That would remove the cilurrent justifiable criticism of picking on farmers. https://lnkd.in/gyTSHcHb
RMA technicality could create a 'terrible waste of time and effort' for farmers - council

Flurry of Farms Kick Start Spring Market As reported in South East Farmer and following a record year in 2023 for our Farms and Land Agency team, we are delighted to be launching several farms in Kent and East Sussex this Spring. Our latest blog post covers the launch of three farms which have have just gone on the market: 🔺 Little Forsham Farm and Little Thornden Farm, Rolvenden – A traditional grassland farm with farmhouse, buildings, equestrian facilities and 165 acres of grazing land. 🔺 Lower Frognall farm, Teynham – A mixed arable and grassland farm in North Kent including two dwellings and farm buildings with potential - 310 acres. 🔺 Frenchurst Farm, Sandhurst – a productive livestock farm comprising bungalow, livestock buildings and 60 acres of pasture land. Demand for farmland remains high and there appears to be a significant amount of rollover money still looking for a home and increasing interest from natural capital markets. Whilst some reports are suggesting that land prices may be levelling off, here in the South East the supply and demand imbalance remains, and prices are holding firm. This Friday is National Agriculture Day, a chance to celebrate and appreciate Australia’s incredible farming sector 👨🌾 By re-acknowledging Farm Safety Week held this July, we should continue to recognise the importance of our farmers and the agricultural industry by showcasing a reminder to stay safe on and off the paddock! Having grown up in the sector, it is often that farmers would put the needs of their land and livestock above their own needs. It can be mentally and emotionally demanding, and the combination of hazards and the nature of work can contribute to risks that are not as easily seen and assessed due to the isolation and rural lifestyle. Call out to raise awareness about these challenges, reduce the stigma associated with talking about them and provide support to assist the agricultural community establish fair safety practices. This one is a fascinating insight for the food production sector and an opinion we often don’t hear! Today we welcome Taylor Dunn onto the R2Kast. Taylor, a passionate British farming advocate from Southend-on-Sea, shares his journey of supporting the agricultural sector despite not having a direct farming background. He discusses how his appreciation for the British countryside and local produce led him to become a vocal supporter of farmers. 🌱 Taylor explains how he and his partner Chloe started "Farm Shop Reviews" on social media, where they travel around the UK visiting local farm shops. They aim to bridge the gap between consumers and farmers by promoting the experience and benefits of shopping locally, thereby supporting small businesses and the farming community. 🚜 He also talks about the importance of proactive consumer engagement with farmers. Taylor emphasises that consumers should take the initiative to build relationships with those who produce their food, understanding the hard work and dedication that goes into farming. This engagement, he believes, can foster a deeper appreciation and support for the agricultural sector. 🤝 Lastly, Taylor shares his perspectives on farming, including the value of transparency and the need to highlight the positive aspects of agriculture to encourage more consumers to support the industry actively. 🗣️ Enjoy! Thanks to Howden Rural for the support. #BritishFarming #FarmShopReviews #ConsumerEngagement #SupportLocal #FarmAdvocate #SustainableFarming #FarmToTable #LocalProduce #Agriculture #FarmingCommunity #TaylorDunn #R2Kast #HowdenRural #FarmShops #UKFarming #FarmPromotion #ShopLocal #FoodProduction #Countryside #FarmLife #FarmersMarket https://lnkd.in/eDZbwG8n
