VINCORION’s gun turret and #weapon stabilization system used in the #Leopard 2 main battle tank was first developed for the Leo 2 A4 in the 1970s. And to this day, our GTD chaserV always keeps its target firmly in its sights, no matter how rough the terrain. The first models still featured a hydraulic weapon tracking system. In order to operate even more efficiently, the system was converted from hydraulic to electric stabilization starting with the Leo 2 A5. It is faster, more reliable, lighter, requires less maintenance and thus guarantees maximum operational readiness. On 11 June, the Norwegian MoD announced that, as part of Norway’s procurement of 54 Leopard 2 tanks under an agreement with Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), local company Ritek AS would become a subcontractor to the German tank-maker. Assembly of the tanks will take place at Ritek’s assembly line in Levanger. “The plan is for Ritek not only to assemble the Norwegian Leopards, but also to become a Nordic hub for maintenance, repair and upgrading of the Nordic Leopard fleet,” according to Norwegian defence minister Bjørn Arild Gram. ***** In Italy, on the same day as Norway’s 11 June announcement, a cooperation deal between KNDS (a consortium of KMW and France’s Nexter) and Italy’s Leonardo fell through due to clashes over technology transfer. The strategic partnership between KNDS and Leonardo had been announced in December for Italy’s purchase of the Leopard tanks including local assembly.
