I agree with Piero. The attempt: Play. Re-think. Un-learn - is close to me, but the red lines are so easy to cross while making educational tools. If the goal was to challenge prevailing perceptions and raise empathy - not achieved in my humble opinion. Eurocentric narratives that sadly dominate the public space. Again. Some questions pop up in my head while watching this production. Racial discrimination and other forms of othering are so present here. Who is the leader? Who is the victim? Who needs help? Who is the help-giver? Who can leave? Who will be forced to stay and under which conditions? What is invisible and why? Advocacy in all white spaces, talking to white people in overwhelmingly white landscape about racism is what we need to do. Otherwise we help maintain racism by benefiting from racial hierarchy privilege. Maybe we are not a thief but we are the beneficiary of the thieves. I am as well. Denial is a heartbeat of racism. I also feel sick seeing this production by ICRC and at the same time I know that I would know nothing if not long hours of my friends who patiently show me how biased I still am in my thinking and my perception of the reality. I acknowledge my own privilege and bias, also in producing my own educational tool Ticket to Safety. Still expanding and expanding my own walls and borders.
It is a pity to see how a great source of resources about International Humanitarian Law (IHL) is full of biases, stereotypes, and neocolonialism. The International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC made an interactive movie to "bring the reality of armed conflict closer to home." aiming to "challenge your perceptions, provoke reflection, and ignite a deeper understanding of the nature of warfare." and "to expand your empathy and compassion for those affected by armed conflict." Good intentions, indeed. But, the biases/stereotypes in the movie are enormous: The local population is People of Color The Humanitarian worker, a white woman probably from a western/northern country The military is a white man, probably from a western/northern country. The militia/rebels that act trying to disrespect HIL are non-western men. Seriously? In 2024? I don't know you, but I feel sick of this! #neocolonialism #IHL #inclusionmatters #stereotypes #biases Judyta Kuc, Guadalupe Cubero Irina Ioana Brudaru Katrien Rennemeier Bjørn Nissen Yigit Aksakoglu James Nyawo Ph.D Barbara Kalima-Phiri Sonja Kresojevic Ingrid Bruynse Cornelis Tanis

Great to see the Producers Guild of America recognise the benefits of filming in Thailand. Especially as my business partner nicholas simon is so heavily mentioned ;) The future looks bright - helped by huge new shoots such as the Alien series, White Lotus, the Sympathiser and others, along with recent announcements that the rebate will potentially DOUBLE to 30% of Thailand spend. In 2023 U.S. companies spent $90 million shooting 34 productions in Thailand, out of a total of 466 foreign productions from over 40 countries. Here's a quick summary of the main points from the article: The film and TV industry is witnessing a significant shift towards Asia, with Thailand emerging as a key player. Recent enhancements in incentives and a history of successful international productions make Thailand an attractive destination for filmmakers worldwide. 🌟 Incentives and Government Support Thailand has ramped up its efforts to attract foreign productions by introducing a robust incentive program. Starting in 2024, producers can receive up to a 30% rebate on all eligible local expenditures, capped at 150 million baht (approximately $4.2 million). Additionally, the Thai government has waived personal income taxes for foreign talent, further sweetening the deal. 🤝 Cultural Hospitality and Ease of Production The famed Thai hospitality extends to film productions, with local coordinators playing a crucial role in facilitating permits and navigating cultural nuances. The supportive atmosphere and collaborative spirit make Thailand not just a location, but a partner in storytelling. 🛠 Infrastructure and Local Talent Thailand’s film infrastructure is expanding, with increasing investments in studios and soundstages. The local talent pool is also a major asset. Thai crews are known for their strong work ethic, expertise, and hospitality, ensuring a smooth production process and high-quality output. 🏞 Diverse and Stunning Locations From lush forests and dramatic mountains to iconic beaches and vibrant cities, Thailand offers a rich tapestry of settings. This variety not only enhances storytelling but also provides practical benefits. Productions can shoot in diverse locations within short distances, making logistics simpler and more cost-effective. As the global film industry evolves, Thailand stands out not just for its cost-effectiveness but for its commitment to fostering a creative and supportive environment for filmmakers. 🔗 pp88-92 https://lnkd.in/ggQwCFCg #FilmProduction #Thailand #InternationalFilmmaking #FilmIncentives #LocationScouting #CreativeIndustries
Thailand has become an increasingly alluring destination for film and television production, a status further enhanced by the introduction of new incentives that producers can now capitalise on. The latest edition of the official magazine of Producers Guild of America, featured just some, of its unique qualities, highlighting why it’s an ideal place for production. ‘When you add fresh new incentives to Thailand’s beauty, warmth and cuisine, it becomes an almost irresistible location for film & TV production.’ Read more: https://lnkd.in/gT4cJy4E

https://lnkd.in/gs_PZy4H I was watching the movie Air again because: 1. It's awesome 2. It's about a passionate, some might say stubborn, man who believed so much for an idea that he was willing to risk everything to make it come true. And I wanted to share this scene with you because (maybe without knowing it) they delivered a creative brief. Everything you'd need to solve a creative problem is in this scene. And it's spectacular. If you write creative briefs study this scene. And then go out and be bold. Because a creative brief isn't about information. It's about inspiration.

Day 28 of my 30-Day Editing Challenge: Honoring the Para Special Forces 🎬 Today’s edit features Major Vivek Jacob talking about the strength and determination of an Indian Para Special Forces soldier. I used the patriotic Vande Mataram song from the movie Fighter as background music, with fast transitions to match the intensity of the message. This edit is purely for practice, and I do not own the content. Interesting read
Is it possible new facts could make us less informed? It may, if the facts we consume are selectively cultivated. Kelsey Piper and Vox take a look at current reporting in aviation and whether or not responsible journalism sometimes includes the decision to not report on an incident. It's a perspective which swims against the tide of click-bait sensationalism and is definitely worth the 5-minute read. Thank you, Kelsey! #aviationsafety #journalism #boeing #vox
