Did you know that there are 622 Area Agencies on Aging throughout the USA? Tri-County Office on Aging is happy to be included as one of these institutions! An Area Agency on Aging (AAA) is a public or private nonprofit agency designated by a state to address the needs and concerns of all older persons at the regional and local levels. AAAs are primarily responsible for a geographic area, also known as a planning and service area. This could be either a city, a single country, or a multi-country district. AAAs coordinate and offer services that help older adults remain in their homes if that is their preference, aided by home-delivered meals, homemaker assistance, and whatever else it may take to make independent living a viable option. Find your local AAA by visiting Eldercare.gov or calling 1-800-677-1116. Image Description: White graphic with lineal orange shapes on the top and bottom. 🗳️Tomorrow is an important day for our country🇺🇲, but whatever happens, be kind. The election results will impact our lives, businesses, economy, and more. I hope your voting is based on the candidates' platform, not propaganda. I hope your informed voting is prepared for the whole ballot, not just the presidential candidates. Tomorrow is not a day of enemies. You rightly are very passionate about your issues and your candidates. It is hard to see good in anyone voting the opposite, but know that everyone who shows up to vote wants a country they can be proud of. Let tomorrow be a day of unity and not division. We vote because we care for our communities and country, but please don't let the vote replace individual responsibilities. If we want to see changes, we need to take action. The more the government provides for the poor, sick, disabled, or elderly, the less we see people show up to serve. Remember, people need connection just as much as sustenance. The more we get sucked into our phones, the less we see the needs of the people standing beside us. Our fast paced schedules have us rushing about and we forget the other drivers on the road. Slow down and see the people around you with compassion. Don't let your passion live or die at the ballet; go out and make a difference tomorrow. Pack an extra lunch for someone you pass on your way to work tomorrow. Gather your coworkers and schedule to serve meals at a local soup kitchen or Ronald McDonald House. Tomorrow, connect with a local school or library to tutor struggling students. Donate a box of diapers, baby clothes, tampons, etc., to a local shelter tomorrow. Tomorrow, care for your community. Tomorrow is not about one leader but about many individuals stepping up to lead. The election matters, but don't put all the responsibility on elected officials; remember, we make a difference as individuals and communities. Tomorrow, be the change you want to see. #Leadership #Community #Love #Vote

On Saturday, March 23rd, Congress passed the final FY2024 budget package. Despite our best attempts – and the strong bipartisan advocacy of 32 U.S. Senators led by U.S. Senators Murkowski (R-AK), Manchin (D-WV), and Sinema (I-AZ) – the package does not extend the obligation deadline for the American Rescue Plan – Homeless Children and Youth (ARP-HCY funds). Fierce opposition from some lawmakers to any provision related to pandemic aid, coupled with a chaotic and rushed legislative process, resulted in this proposal being left out of the agreement. In addition, the midnight deadline meant that no votes could be taken on amendments that would actually pass, because that would have required the bill to be sent back to the House, which would have caused a government shutdown. The final FY2024 package DOES contain some helpful provisions that resulted from our collective advocacy, including: ➡️ An additional year of availability for FY2023 and FY2024 McKinney-Vento Education for Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY) funding. ➡️ Requirements for the U.S. Department of Education to provide greater oversight of and transparency on Title I Part A reservations of funds for children and youth experiencing homelessness. ➡️ Requirements for the Administration for Children and Families at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to develop (and report to Congress) a plan to lead and coordinate efforts to provide holistic services. We know that many of our network took part in advocacy to urge Members of Congress to support the ARP-HCY extension. That advocacy mattered, and will continue to matter as we pivot to the FY2025 budget and the continuing need to educate policymakers on the importance of increased dedicated funding for students experiencing homelessness. 🔗 Get the details: https://lnkd.in/dsx_nu3y

It was great to be part of the Advisory Group for this report by Demos on reform of the local government finance system. https://lnkd.in/gZ2C-sdQ At The Health Foundation we strongly believe that local government has a vital place leadership role and holds many of the levers that help people to live healthy lives. Demos rightly identify that local authorities are struggling to create healthy, thriving communities given so much of council funding is taken up with demand led, high needs services. Local authorities have the potential to do so much more but we need to value their role more highly and think radically about liberating councils to take innovative, preventative action.

Good news with an increase of 24,100 Home Care Packages in tonight’s Federal Budget. Reprioritising unspent Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) funds to other parts of the aged care system is concerning. CHSP funds basic services like meals on wheels, domestic assistance and transport. It needs to grow, not be cut. The ABC ran a story in the lead up to the Budget outlining the closed waiting lists for CHSP services across the country. Excellent news to see £69m Family Hubs funding so the transformation can continue. Local authorities and commissioned deliverers of Family Hubs, such as Spurgeons, HCRG Care Group and Barnardo's know that Family Hubs are the right way for families to get the help they need. Families can visit their local Family Hub and find kindness, support and services in the community, so problems get solved and family life gets better. Roll on Family Hubs Network's national conference on 29th November in Derby, open to everyone involved with Family Hubs - local authorities, public, private and voluntary sector partners, and central govt. We'll be celebrating the £69m, revisiting the vision, sharing what works up and down the country, and taking the next steps to reach the full potential - a comprehensive 0-19 offer, supporting family relationships, improving mental health, helping children get back into school, working with young people at risk of crime and supporting families with a parent in prison. Family Hubs isn't a list of services, it's a better way to give children the best start for life and help families thrive. https://lnkd.in/e6yZwcyw
In light of the new budget, the government has a renewed ambition to give every child the best start in life. This plan includes increasing spending on early years and family services to over £8 billion by 2025/26! This is a fantastic opportunity for families to access vital support and services in their communities and a brilliant time to highlight our Family hubs and the incredible resources they have on offer Family Hubs Network.
