While they are often perceived as a cosmetic concern, varicose veins can lead to discomfort, swelling, and complications like ulcers or blood clots if left untreated. We should play a critical role in educating patients about preventive measures such as regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, and avoiding prolonged standing or sitting. For those already affected, patient education on compression therapy, lifestyle changes, and the importance of medical consultations can significantly improve quality of life. Constipation is not a fun subject for anyone to discuss, but in the elderly population, untreated constipation can have profound effects. Constipation can severely impact the quality of life and dignity of the elderly patient. Struggling with this issue can often be embarrassing for elderly patients, and fortunately, it is usually possible to effectively manage and prevent constipation.   Constipation is often overlooked and not considered as a serious concern; however, chronic untreated constipation can lead to a more serious medical issue such as bowel obstruction, rectal prolapse, and anal fissure. When it comes to Geriatric care, one thought that constantly comes to my mind is are we measuring the right quality metrics? Are we tailoring those benchmarks to our elderly nursing home patients? We keep working on hypertension and diabetes control which is important but let’s not forget patient centered approach and variables like polypharmacy, Goals of care discussion, nutritional status.
