🦵 When to Consider Knee Surgery? Knowing the Right Time is Key! 🕒 Physiotherapy is essential for managing knee pain, improving mobility, and maintaining joint health. However, it’s not always the complete solution, especially when pain persists despite consistent therapy. ⚠️ Recognizing the right time for knee surgery is crucial for achieving the best outcomes for your long-term health and mobility. Delaying surgery when it’s needed can lead to further joint damage, reduced function, and prolonged discomfort. 🔍 Here’s why it’s important to know when surgery might be the right option: 1. Persistent Pain and Limited Mobility: If your pain doesn’t improve with conservative treatments, surgery may be necessary to restore quality of life. 2. Structural Damage: Conditions like severe osteoarthritis or ligament tears often require surgical intervention for full recovery. 3. Maximizing Functional Outcomes: Timely surgery can prevent further deterioration and support a more effective rehabilitation process. 4. Enhanced Recovery: 🏃♂️ Modern surgical techniques combined with post-op physiotherapy can lead to quicker and more complete recoveries. At Orthocure, we guide you through these decisions with a comprehensive approach—evaluating all options from physiotherapy to surgery. Our goal is to ensure you receive the right treatment at the right time, tailored to your unique needs. 🤝 Remember, the right decision can make all the difference. Consult with our experts to explore what’s best for your knee health. #KneeSurgery #OrthopedicCare #Physiotherapy #JointHealth #Orthocure 🏥

The APA welcomes the revised '2024 Osteoarthritis of the Knee Clinical Care Standard' released today by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care, which included expanded and strengthened statements advocating for the provision of regular exercise, physical activity and weight management to treat the condition. By 2030, knee replacements to treat osteoarthritis are expected to rise by 276 per cent (Ackerman et al. 2019), but this shift in clinical advice may see conservative management applied to several cases, reducing the need for costly and at times, risky surgery. We hope this sparks a change of pace for other musculoskeletal disorders, where funding has been skewed towards surgical interventions, and we strongly desire to see non-surgical treatment more widely facilitated as first line treatment, which would include the prescription of physiotherapy. Surgery isn't always the answer for chronic pain. You may have seen the Four Corners episode a few weeks back discussing people's experience with surgical intervention for chronic pain. Following the broadcast, the Australian Physiotherapy Association conducted a flash poll that showed that over 90 per cent of physiotherapists said they have treated patients suffering after unnecessary and potentially harmful surgeries. This doesn't mean that all surgery is bad. Chronic pain is complex to treat. Physiotherapy can be a safe, effective treatment for chronic pain as part of a multi-disciplinary evidence-based approach. Lifecare physios work closely with surgeons to help choose the best approach. Read the APA article to learn more: https://lnkd.in/gDFU2JWd

Why is Physiotherapy Essential After Surgery? 💡 Post-surgical recovery can be challenging, but physiotherapy plays a crucial role in speeding up the healing process and improving overall outcomes. It helps by: 1️⃣ Enhancing Blood Circulation: This is key for quicker recovery, as it ensures that oxygen and essential nutrients reach the healing tissues. 2️⃣ Reducing Scar Tissue Formation: Physiotherapy techniques help to break down scar tissue, allowing smoother movement and preventing complications 3️⃣ Easing Swelling: Post-surgery swelling is common, but targeted exercises and therapy can alleviate this discomfort, promoting a faster return to normal function. 4️⃣ Improving Flexibility: After surgery, muscles and joints can become stiff. Physiotherapy restores flexibility, enabling the patient to regain their range of motion and get back to daily activities. #linkdin #jointeffortsphysiotherapyclinic

Surgery should always be the last option for knee pain. There are many non-surgical treatments to explore first—physical therapy, rehabilitation, medications, and targeted strengthening exercises. Often, options like joint injections or knee braces can provide enough relief without the need for surgery. However, if knee pain becomes chronic, interferes with daily life, or affects simple activities like walking or shopping, it’s time to consider seeing a specialist. In some cases, lifestyle changes, diet adjustments, and weight management can work wonders. While knee surgery is sometimes necessary, it’s best to explore all other avenues first. Consult an orthopedic specialist to discuss the options that might work for you.
