💡The Groove Radio Podcast originally started in 2005 with a question: what is missing on regular radio? My answer was b-sides and obscure soul music. Radio relies heavily on national research and quarter-hour scheduling along with commercials. I wanted my show to be a point of soul music discovery, all music all the time. I realized you could build TSL (time spent listening) by not resorting to the most familiar songs. I discovered that you can play a familiar artist’s not-so-familiar song, such as Stevie Wonder, and still retain listeners. As a podcaster this was revolutionary for me, I learned that I could take lessons from major market radio and apply them to a micro-niche podcast.

In the latest episode of 'Harry', Harry and I discuss some mutual insecurities. Fair warning, this isn't the most cheerful episode and involves me doing a lot of talking (and crying)--but it is an interesting dive into Harold's experience of difficult emotions and demonstrates his sensitivity. We have two ears and one mouth - listen more, speak less. Mediation is all about listening. Being an effective listener is critical to the mediation process, and everyday life for that matter. You can't help if you can't hear. In mediation, engaging the parties requires focus, active listening, curiosity, a desire to learn. and an open mind. These qualities enable you to hear what is said, delve further into the story, learn about different perspectives and drive conciliation. Hrishikesh Hirway, a musician and podcaster, shares his insight on the importance of listening. He reminds us that "you cannot fully appreciate what someone else is saying if you are thinking about something else." In a world of distractions, you cannot be distracted and still hear what someone else is saying. It would be like listening to a song and singing a different one at the same time. It doesn't work. Bottom line: we have two ears and one mouth - listen more, speak less. #ADR #mediationworksfl #listener #mediation #employment #peacemaker
