Congratulations to Dr.Travis Smith and Benjamin Shiffman for selection as one of two winning teams in Metron’s 11th Innovation Fund Tournament for their proposal “MArray Improvements”. Their proposal extends earlier Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) work sponsored by the Office of Naval Research to build a fast, flexible, multidimensional numerical library for software development 🧑💻 that facilitates rapid conversion of prototype algorithms and code into production software. MArray streamlines the process of moving from developmental to efficient production code by providing a C++ implementation of a multi-dimensional array class that produces fast multi-dimensional data manipulation, arithmetic, linear algebra, and other higher-order functions. ✅ Employs simple-to-use hardware agnostic syntax ✅ Works across most development platforms and compliers Metron established the Innovation Fund Tournaments to empower our employees, foster innovation, and cultivate a culture of continuous learning. It allows employees to compete for company-sponsored R&D funds to pursue their passion projects. Winners receive 6-months of funding to develop their ideas. There is no requirement that winning projects produce a product or tool that yields a financial gain for Metron; the goal is to provide an outlet for Metron employees' creativity and explore technologies outside of their funded projects. The 💡#Innovation Fund was the brainchild of Metron’s CEO Van Gurley and is led by Metron’s Chief Scientist Dr.Lawrence Stone to provide a channel for employees to purse their innovative technical ideas or dream projects. The Innovation Fund is one of the many benefits of working here at Metron.
