Throwback Saturday: The No-Bummer Summer of 1959👇 One favorite early-June tradition: making a No-Bummer Summer list! What DOESN’T go on the list? ❌ Anything related to work. ❌ Anything that puts pressure on me. ❌ Anything that has even a whiff of productivity associated with it. What DOES go on the list? ✅ Adventuring… Exploring… Relaxing… ✅ Fun projects I’ve been putting off for too long. ✅ Spending more time with the folks I enjoy spending time with. If it happens, great. If not, no worries. My No-Bummer Summer list so far: ✅ As many visits to my kids and grandkids as they will tolerate. ✅ Read several chick-lit novels deemed “too trashy” for Book Club. ✅ Eat dinner on the patio at least once per week. ✅ Take Mom to a jazz festival. ✅ Figure out a few outings to zoos, museums, baseball games, beaches, ice cream parlors, afternoon tea party emporiums, fancy yarn stores, and outdoor concerts. The list is not about accomplishments, measurements, grades, or reports about “what I did during my summer vacation.” Just joy, inspiration, relaxation, and a sense of adventure. 👉 👉 👉 What’s on YOUR No-Bummer Summer list?

Opportunity. When I can, I take the opportunity to educate others on traditions and causes behind them. Working in a truly diverse setting, but seeing little in terms of seizing these opportunities is actually…well…exciting. Our world is fast. Everything is now, now, now…go, go, go…move, move, move. (Stole that from Daffy Duck) It is important to share meanings behind traditions, holidays, and celebrations/remembrances. Did this for the week leading up to Memorial Day. So maybe it will spark a conversation. A learning moment. A pause as we plan in and around the upcoming holiday. It IS a fast world. Not TOO fast to forget what remains important and meaningful.

In the immortal words of Bon Jovi - “Woah, we’re halfway there…” Halfway through my secondment with Poppyscotland and what a four months it has been. Over those months, there have been many, many, many day… I’ve distilled them into one of the five different types. 1️⃣ a school day: with new areas of IG to learn about (enjoying raffles and regular giving), and reshaping my love of legacies. New techniques for DM, and different ways of working. 2️⃣ a planning day: planning my time to ensure that I can fit it all that is important, and moving aside the bits which I have absolutely ability to change or impact. 3️⃣ a reflection day: talking with those in my network about what I’ve learned, what’s gone well, what hasn’t, and what would I do differently next time… 4️⃣ a prioritising day: understanding that my priorities, really aren’t everyone else’s priorities, and that their priorities really aren’t mine too. With a little caring and sharing still gets the job done! 5️⃣ a “not today Satan” day. Enough said. I’m looking forward to a few more types of days, as I move into months 5, 6, 7 and 8 - there’s a another song on there somewhere….
