The new Heat and Health Index from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) provides valuable data to help communities across the country stay safe during heat events. By combining historic temperature data and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) data on heat-related emergency responses, public health officials, city planners, policymakers, health care providers and city planners can use zip-code level data to reduce heat-related illnesses and deaths. The new index is the latest in a set of public health tools created to protect the nation's health from heat. Heat events are becoming more frequent and intense, and heat can be especially dangerous for people with underlying health conditions. A new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Heat and Health Index map incorporates historical temperature, heat-related illness, and community characteristics data at the ZIP code level to: 🌡 identify areas most likely to experience negative health outcomes from heat and 🌡 help communities prepare for heat in a changing climate. Check out and share this tool to support informed decision-making and promote community preparedness to prevent the negative health impacts of heat: https://bit.ly/3AelMJc

Happy #Worldhealthday On this day, it's my call for all policymakers, youth, and all stakeholder in health to advocate for: 1. Safe drinking water. 2. Quality housing. 3. Decent working. 4. Environmental condition. 5. Health information. If we invest much in above, we will prevent more diseases to occur. thus to practice by action a say " prevention is better than cure".

🌞 Hey everyone, hope you're staying cool out there! Much of the US has already experienced at least one heat wave this season (we certainly have in Chicago!) and we’re likely to continue to see even higher temperatures. I wanted to share some valuable tools to help you stay informed and prepared for heat-related health issues. 🛠️ CDC’s HeatRisk Dashboard: This mobile-friendly tool provides location-specific heat and health information. It includes the new HeatRisk forecast tool, protective health actions, and links to Clinician Heat and Health Guidance. You can also find details related to heat, air quality, and health. https://lnkd.in/grizjX2z 🛠️ Air Quality Index (AQI): Developed by the EPA, the AQI helps communicate air quality levels. Remember, values of 0-100 are satisfactory, while 101-500 indicate unhealthy air. High pollen counts, not included in the AQI, can also trigger asthma symptoms. https://lnkd.in/g3Z4zw6T 📚 Resources for Community Health Centers: Thanks to NACHC and the CDC, CHCs now have a set of resources to help communities cope with the impacts of high heat. Feedback from health center clinicians and staff has refined these materials, which are now available in a centralized location. https://lnkd.in/gH4DSGaR Has it been hot by you this summer? Stay safe and cool! Remember to check these resources and take proactive steps to protect your health and the health of those around you. #HeatWave #StayCool #PublicHealth
