When I first started teaching English, I couldn't figure out how my colleagues created brilliant and successful lessons in less than half the time it took me. Then, I began teaching one-on-one sessions without a set curriculum or textbook, and I found myself spending even more time planning! There are plenty of tips on lesson planning and using pre-prepared online resources or quickly creating your own materials. But in my experience, the hard part—and the most important part—of any English lesson is understanding exactly what your student needs. Once I learned how to create an effective needs analysis, and learned to listen to my students’ needs, and be adaptable, lesson planning became straightforward and clear. Just the other day, a student came into class panicking because she had secured a job interview scheduled for the next day. I immediately set aside my planned lesson, and we spent the entire session on interview preparation. Knowing that this was exactly what she needed at that moment, and trusting in my ability to deliver, I was able to provide her with direct benefits she could apply the next day! Teachers, let me know what helps you plan effective lessons! #lessonplanning #ESL #Englishlessons #TeachingEnglish #onetoone

Common Phrasal Verbs in Conversation While I haven't yet come across anything on YouTube that mimics real-world conversations, this channel at least has goals and isn't overly manufactured. Learn English With Jessica https://lnkd.in/d6KXURWh One of the movies employs frequent phrasal verbs in discussions and then explains each of them. Common Phrasal Verbs https://lnkd.in/dTHKmcRY The topic of this video is a job interview. Interview for a Job https://lnkd.in/d_2-ajPi These are merely for training purposes. Real-world situations need you to speak English far more fluently, which naturally entails mastery of grammar. However, I believe that these videos are far superior resources than films or TV episodes, which are ineffective and chaotic waste of time when used as educational aids.

The most powerful thing you can give someone? Their voice. As a CELTA-certified English teacher, I’ve spent countless hours helping students overcome language barriers, grow in confidence, and embrace their unique voice. Here’s what I’ve learned: It’s not just about grammar—it’s about empowering someone to share their story confidently. Progress is personal. Whether it’s acing a job interview or simply holding a conversation in English, each step is a win. Patience is key—every learner is different, and the journey is just as important as the destination. If you’ve ever taught, you know this feeling. If you’ve ever learned a new language, you’ve lived it. Teaching is more than instruction—it’s transformation. P.S. Have you had a moment where you found your voice in a new language? Let’s share stories! #teaching #teacher #education 😅
