Transforming Care: Controversial Proposal for 11-Bed HMO Near Residents' Homes. More details on hmoreporter.co.uk - In November 2024, discussions surrounding the conversion of a former care home into an 11-bed House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) have sparked considerable debate within the local community in Northern Ireland. This proposal arises amidst a backdrop of historical opposition from residents and council members regarding the establishment of HMOs in residential areas. Critics argue that such changes can lead to a myriad of social issues, including noise, increased traffic, and a deterioration of neighborhood cohesion. This article provides an overview of the proposed transformation and the prevailing community concerns that echo the opposition seen in previous HMO initiatives.

As leaders in the multifamily housing industry, we understand the importance of staying ahead of trends, tackling challenges, and developing relationships with industry leaders. By attending events like the NMHC Spring Meeting, we gain valuable insights, share best practices, and deepen relationships with other industry leaders. Rob Vendramin, VP of Operations, ePremium, who attended the event, shares, “Attendees of the NMHC Spring Meeting connected on many topics related to serving the Workforce Housing population which makes up about 60% of the multifamily community. Working with local and federal organizations to implement key programs will help to increase high-quality, affordable housing for teachers, firefighters, police officers, and many others who desire to live in the areas in which they work.” Inhabit is committed to providing solutions that help improve efficiency and operational excellence within PMCs to control costs and provide more opportunities for our communities to grow and thrive. #Inhabit #NMH #PropertyManagement #AffordableHousing #Multifamily #PropTech

Did you know? Since 2002, Over-the-Rhine has faced a dramatic loss in affordable housing, with a 73% reduction in units for our lowest-income neighbors. This stark decline—from 3,235 units in 2002 to just 869 in 2015—highlights the urgent need for affordable housing in Cincinnati. Over the same period, Over-the-Rhine experienced a 348.8% increase in median household income, demonstrating the growing disparity within the community. Over-the-Rhine Community Housing is committed to reversing these trends though providing affordable housing options to build inclusive community and benefit low-income residents. This year's artwork was created by local San Jose artist, Rayos Magos. He brought our vision to life while showcasing many of our shared values including a commitment to social justice, housing as a human right, and being rooted in community. AHM is the time to bring people together so that we can all transform our communities into more diverse, affordable, equitable, and accessible places to live — which brings us to this year’s theme of #4Us4You4All, recognizing that our well-being is tied to the well-being of our neighbors. In 2024, we are leading a transformational region-wide bond measure that works towards housing for everyone in our community. This year is about moving housing affordability beyond the creation of affordable homes for individuals to the realization of stable neighborhoods for whole communities – a vision going beyond housing as a human right to one of healing and restoration for us, for you, and for all. That is why during this year’s Affordable Housing Month, we will be lifting up local partner programming to demonstrate the breadth and depth of the affordable housing ecosystem in Santa Clara County and the strength of our collective work. The future we envision for the Bay Area begins with us. #affordablehousingmonth #ahm2024 #forusforyouforall #affordablehousing #housingjustice

Young residents - who are often not tenants or leaseholders - aren't written into housing policy or reflected within wider strategies of housing associations. Metropolitan Thames Valley, Clarion Housing Group and Hyde wanted to review collectively where young people’s needs, voices and leadership could be embedded across their services by initiating the Young Residents in Partnership project. In collaboration with Partnership for Young London and peer researchers, the final report of last year’s phase is now published: 'Shaping Housing Futures: young residents using peer research in housing to make the invisible visible'. This report aims to contribute to identifying opportunities to integrate youth voice and leadership into structures that can influence policy and practice across housing associations. It highlights key findings from both speaking with young residents as well as with housing sector professionals, and provides recommendations designed by the peer research team, such as "define young people as a separate stakeholder into housing policy with specific procedures in place." The report will be the foundation for the next phase of the Young Residents in Partnership Project, in which six peer researchers who are all young residents with MTVH, Clarion and Hyde, will work together with the housing sector to collaborate on featuring young residents in housing policy and practice.
