🏥 The Man in the Hospital 🏥 David Robinson reflects on a day at the hospital. As Health and Social Care Secretary Wes Streeting consults on the future of the NHS, David makes the case for “critical synergy”. “We want the awesome science”, he says. “We also want good relationships – warmth and love and kindness. Half of this critical synergy depends upon the mighty NHS. Half is down to us. We must each make room for the other." https://lnkd.in/dxfUx_Zq

Brilliant think piece by David Robinson on why both relationships and science are vital for the future of the NHS.

I’ve covered some of this already in my annual reports; but to place the NHS on a sustainable footing, we need - - emphasis on person centred primary care with continuity of care; balancing biological and biographical care - consistent application of digital solutions; this shouldn’t be about replacing clinicians with AI but enabling clinicians to provide kind and care ful care undistracted. - precision based prevention; led by data and ensuring that we don’t leave people behind that we’ve not previously been able to reach - trust in research and innovation but ensure the pathway from discovery through to adoption with consistency is as short and thorough as possible - eradicate the waste from our system; pursue value and quality and identify and eliminate the failure demand; productivity may still be improved in some predictable clinical processes and in administrative support - recognise that the largest health and well-being benefit will come from outside healthcare; pursue the policies that eradicate poverty, alienation and inequality - enhance the health literacy of our population to navigate the choices and approach to health that they need, esp during times of distress and vulnerability - support our health and care workforce to be who they want and need to be through adequate capacity, capability and support in the way they approach and manage risk - pursue approaches to care that are more carbon neutral and adapt our healthcare system to the threat posed by climate change, pollution and loss of biodiversity A climate resilient, sustainable and equitable health and care system is still within reach if we make the transformative change that we need with consistency and urgency. https://lnkd.in/eKUuRy3n
The statement from Lord Darzi, published today, is as true for the NHS in Scotland as it is for NHS England. The NHS is in need of a reset. We need to examine what we are doing and need to stop doing; and to look at what we need to do that we aren’t. Key to this is strong clinical leadership; effective, fully funded Public Health, and the recognition that strong General Practice which is fully funded is needed to underpin a cost effective NHS. For too long health care has been a political football. It is now time to take health out of politics and politics out of health. This is the only way to save the NHS before it is too late.

I am delighted that Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is now Sharing Admissions, Discharge and Transfer Data in the Shared Care Record across the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care System (ICS). For the first time, clinicians and other health and social care staff using the #SharedCareRecord across our region will be able to see this valuable information and how it can improve the care and services they provide. As UK’s leading heart and lung hospital, our availability of this information means that users accessing the Shared Care Record from other service providers will be able to see if their patient has previously been admitted to our specialist hospital for treatment. This will allow health and social care professionals to make informed decisions about the care and support they can offer a person across the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough area and beyond. The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Shared Care Record electronically connects patient information from GPs, local hospitals, social care, community, and mental health teams across our area, helping to make care better and safer. Thank you, thank you to everyone who have helped make this step possible… 🙌🙌 Felicity Baillie Chris Johnson Christopher McCorquodale Adri De Sousa Sandra Silva @david yan Benjamin Anderson, Elliot Phoenix Christy Varghese @wayne ford @shashika jayasena Andrew Wall Öncü Altuntas Joan Oliver Philippa Wiffen MCIPR Dougal Fleming Michelle Yam Rob Nimmo Mark Hindle Dr Rozelle C Kane Cath Willcox Philip Hammond

Rt Hon Lord Philip Hunt of Kings Heath OBE and Public Policy Projects are advocating for improved services and an alliance approach to wound care within the NHS to support the millions of individuals living with chronic wounds across the UK. With 67% of NHS expenditure in this area directed towards unhealed wounds, there is a significant opportunity to enhance patient outcomes through focused prevention and early intervention which digital solutions can enable. We support increased political recognition of wound care, a crucial step towards ensuring that that essential services receive the attention they require. Health and Social Care Secretary Wes Streeting said: Anyone who works in or uses the NHS can see it is broken. This government will be honest about the challenges facing the health service, and serious about tackling them. This investigation will uncover hard truths and I’ve asked for nothing to be held back. I trust Lord Darzi will leave no stone unturned and have told him to speak truth to power. I want a raw and frank assessment of the state of the NHS. This is the necessary first step on the road to recovery for our National Health Service, so it can be there for us when we need it, once again. Professor Lord Darzi said: As every clinician and every patient knows, the first step to addressing any health problem is a proper diagnosis. My work will analyse the evidence to understand where we are today - and how we got to here - so that the health service can move forward. This is an important step to reestablishing quality of care as the organising principle of the NHS. Amanda Pritchard, NHS chief executive said: Frontline NHS staff are doing an incredible job, despite the huge pressures they face, to deliver care to over a million people every day, but we know that they face huge struggles and patients are not always getting the timely, high quality care they need. We will work closely with the government, independent experts and NHS staff to take a detailed look at the scale of the challenges and set out plans to address them – this comprehensive analysis will be an important step in helping us to build an NHS fit for the future. #nhs #diagnosis #futureplans #fitforthefuture #roadtorecovery

3wI think if you don't consider the man (or woman) before the hospital and afterwards you are missing the crucial second part of Mr Streetings title, and a critical part of the 'synergy'.
