"If we didn't have people partnering with us, it's hard to communicate the opportunities that are available to them after they graduate." VEC was proud to present to students at Lordstown High School, TCTC and MCCTC about a career in the skilled trades. Special thanks to Julie Rook, Mark Taylor and Kory Cooper for allowing us to speak to your classes. My wife and I started working with the City of Refuge, Inc. (COR) in Atlanta in 2020. COR works to provide a full package of services to the Atlanta community, focusing on people in crisis. Core to their foundation is vocational training. Not long after our involvement began, we realized there was synergy between the desire for COR to offer job training programs and the need we have in industry to retain trade skills. In partnership with TOMCO Systems the concept of a Welder Training Program was born. Two years ago, we shot the video below. Fast-forward to today, and we are nearly fully funded! A few key partners, both people and organizations, have made incredible investment into the vision of this program. The space is being built out and we have a very real target of launching the first cohort in Q1 of 2025. So what's left? We are still fundraising for a few final pieces of equipment, and are looking for partners to come alongside and ensure the longevity of this program. The City of Refuge does not do anything half-heartedly, and this program will not be the exception. How can you support? If you are in Atlanta, please feel free to contact me directly and get out to see the campus for yourself. Your heart will be absolutely blown up. There are so many ways to get involved. For this program specifically, follow the link to our landing page to see more content on the City of Refuge, the success of existing job programs, a rendering of the future welding space, and a link to commit financially towards the program. https://lnkd.in/eq_CraDA If you are in the trades, you can appreciate the importance needing a workforce that is passionate and willing. Recruitment and retention has been difficult. We believe we can re-invest into America's manufacturing through the success of a program like this. We do not want to graduate a single student without job placement. Contact us and see how you can get involved with job placement following graduation. As a final thought, I get to work on some really exciting projects at my day job, and I am blessed to be able to say that! But, nothing gets me more excited than knowing we will see this project through to the finish line and get to be witnesses to life transformations within our community. Thank you to everyone who has invested with their time, finances, and prayers to get us to this point. Let's bring it home!

Life is tough sometimes, especially when you're pursuing your goals and dreams. You may find yourself thinking about quitting... don't. You may think about taking the easier path... don't. Instead, push through... In Navy SEAL training, there's a powerful symbol for quitting: a bell. If you ring it, you’re done. It’s the final step for those who decide they’ve had enough. You have to choose to quit and walk up to the bell. No one will force you to ring the bell. But those who push through the toughest moments, the coldest waters, and the most relentless challenges emerge stronger. The same holds true for government contractors. The federal market can be grueling — long timelines, detailed proposals, intense competition. There are moments when it feels like the easier option would be to walk away and get a 'real' job. But those who choose to endure and stay the course are the ones who win the contracts, build the relationships, and grow their businesses. To all the small businesses out there, remember: Don’t quit on the 10th rejection; that 11th proposal could be your winning ticket. Don’t quit when deadlines feel overwhelming; it’s in the last mile that you separate yourself from the pack. Don’t quit when learning the ropes feels like a mountain; each challenge is a lesson that prepares you for the next opportunity. In the end, success in government contracting—like in SEAL training—isn’t just about skill. It’s about endurance. So, whatever you do, never ring the bell. Join me in virtual networking on 10/28 to meet other government contractors who ignore the bell: https://lnkd.in/eUqiQxzX ___________________________________ 🔥 Join 20,450 others and subscribe to our GovCon newsletter | https://lnkd.in/es6qfwgk 👀 Follow me (Neil McDonnell) on LinkedIn and hit the 🔔 on my profile to see more government contracting content like 34,812 other people do.
