"The Salvos have never seen the volume and widespread nature of need across Australia like we are right now," says Major Bruce Harmer. This Christmas, countless families are enduring unprecedented hardships, making the festive season more challenging than ever. Last year, thanks to your incredible generosity, we were able to: 🎁 330,000+ gifts and toys for families in need 🍲 184,000+ meals for those experiencing homelessness 🏠 92,000+ bed nights for families needing accommodation However, this year the need has grown even greater. Our latest research reveals that 6.3 million Australians are struggling to afford housing this festive season. For many families, this means their children might miss out on presents and even basic food. 📊 Key findings: 1 in 4 Australians worry their kids won't receive gifts. 2.5 million are concerned their children might go hungry. 1.9 million Australians are reaching out for help this Christmas, with 54% seeking assistance for the first time. 17.4% of Australians may go into debt. 19.2% could struggle to pay medical bills just to make it through the holidays. As the cost-of-living crisis deepens, the pressure on individuals and families continues to mount. It is truly heartbreaking to see the difficult decisions Australians are making to provide for their loved ones this Christmas. How you can help: Donate to support food, shelter, and essential services. Volunteer your time to make a direct impact. Share this message to raise awareness and spread the word. Your support is crucial in bringing hope and relief to those who need it most. The biggest crisis facing families in the UK right now? Currently, 159,000 children are living, eating, and sleeping in a single room, crammed in with their parents, siblings, and all their belongings. Homeless people with children are shuffled into emergency accommodation (B&Bs, hostels, hotel rooms etc) while they await a more stable home. Although families are supposed to spend no more than six weeks in emergency accommodation many are enduring months or even years in these unsuitable living conditions. There are many reasons that families can face homelessness. Including: - Increasing rent prices in the private sector - Domestic violence - No fault evictions - Discrimination - Debt Our tailored grants help homeless people secure essential items when there is nowhere left to turn. Within just a few days of applying, the grant is in their hands, empowering them to take their next steps with confidence and hope. We can help more families in need this winter, but we need your help. Suggested donations: £10 will help towards hygiene products for families. £20 will help families afford travel to see family and friends. £30 will help families improve their temporary accommodation with curtains, bedding and flooring. Every gift matters. As we kick off with the first of our winter drives today, it’s important to take a moment to reflect on the scale of the problem facing the UK and the incredible impact Reformation Charity has had over the last few years. The issue of homelessness and vulnerable families is more widespread than ever. According to recent statistics, over 280,000 people in the UK are experiencing homelessness or living in unsatisfactory conditions. Of these, over 100,000 are children, and many families are struggling to make ends meet. Horrifyingly, 1 in 5 households are living in poverty, with millions more facing difficulties in accessing basic necessities like food, heating, and healthcare. As winter sets in, these challenges only intensify, putting vulnerable individuals and families at greater risk. Last year, thanks to the generosity, support and hard work of our volunteers, Reformation Charity was able to help 50 families and 150 homeless individuals. In total, we donated over £6,500 worth of essential items, ranging from food, clothing, and toiletries to blankets and hygiene products. It was an incredibly humbling experience to witness first hand the difference these donations made in the lives of so many and to realise how much we take for granted. Our efforts were powered by over 170 volunteers who committed their time, energy, and resources to ensure that those in need received the help they deserve. From distribution events to fundraising, every single person at each step of our journey contributed to a tangible impact to the lives of those who are struggling most. This year, we continue our mission to provide support and hope to those facing winter without the means to stay warm, safe, or well-fed. The first of our winter drives is taking place today, and we are determined to make an even bigger impact than last year. With the support of our growing community of volunteers and donors, we hope to reach even more families and individuals, making sure they don't have to face this difficult season alone. Their need is urgent, and the challenges they face are significant. However, when we come together, we can make a real and lasting difference. Every donation, every volunteer, and every act of kindness helps to alleviate the hardship that many are facing. Together, we can stand with the most vulnerable in our society and make this winter a little warmer and brighter. #ReformationCharity #WinterDrives #AffectingLives #Volunteering

Christmas is a wonderful time, a time of joy. While this season is symbolic of joy and togetherness for many, it's a harsh reality for others. Amidst the joy of Christmas, many families face food and housing insecurity, and even the smallest, unexpected expense can lead to losing their home. Please help ensure everyone who comes to City Mission for help leading up to Christmas is supported. When disposable income is inadequate, households are forced to prioritise one essential over another. Fuel versus rent. Rent versus power. Power versus health care. It is a game of trading off wellbeing for survival. Currently, over 84,000 Tasmanian families find it hard to afford food, let alone Christmas presents for their kids. Your tax-deductible donation can make a profound difference, bringing a sprinkle of joy to families in need this Christmas. Please donate to the City Mission Christmas Appeal today https://lnkd.in/g37vUFaa #GivingTuesday Launceston City Mission

As the winter bites down in #Somerset, and as the pressures on our health services goes beyond crisis, I'd like to remind everyone that Somerset Community Foundation's Surviving Winter funding is being distributed by our local partners, including Citizens Advice Somerset, CCS (Community Council for Somerset) and Age UK Somerset, to help older people struggling with the cost of staying warm and well. Fuel poverty affects people of all ages but is particularly impactful on the health and wellbeing of older people. It can not only exacerbate health conditions commonly associated with ageing, the cold weather can create anxiety and increase loneliness and isolation. That is why, alongside direct financial support, we fund community-run warm spaces and festive lunches to help bring people together. Surviving Winter is a genuine community-driven initiative. The idea came from people wishing to donate their Winter Fuel Payment to help others less fortunate, the distribution is through local charities that work close to the ground, and the efforts to ensure people do not become isolated when they can least afford to do so, is entirely driven by community spirit. Somerset Community Foundation has an important job to coordinate the funding, but none of this would work without the compassion that sits at heart of our communities. Indeed, much of the work we fund throughout the year helps build stronger communities, so when need is at its greatest communities can, and do, step up. In my view, investing in community is as important as investing in services - we need both. We knew the change in Government policy on the Winter Fuel Payment would impact on donations while also increasing the risks for those who now just fall outside the threshold for means-tested benefits. However, I am knocked out by how many people are continuing to support our appeal. In many ways the number of people donating is as important as the size of their donations, and we will continue to give anyone the opportunity to help others as long as they wish to. Their support means we can continue to run the programme and have secured generous help from Somerset Council on top through the Household Support Fund.

🆘 Our Winter Appeal Needs Your Help! The Government’s cuts are causing continued hardship for tens of thousands of New Zealanders, and The Salvation Army is struggling to keep up with the demand. In just the first six months of this year, we’ve provided food assistance to over 60,000 Kiwis. With rising living costs and recent Government decisions, our Winter Appeal is more important than ever. Jono Bell, our National Director of Community Ministries, explains how inflation, changes to social support, and housing insecurity are creating a perfect storm for poverty. We’ve had to cut our food response by 25% nationwide from 1 July due to a lack of funds. This Winter Appeal, we urgently need your generosity to support those in need in our communities. Donations fund crucial services such as foodbanks, supported accommodation, financial mentoring and addiction counselling. Join us in making a difference. Your support is vital. We know that over one third of single mother families are living in poverty, but last year, when CSMC released our report on Australia's largest survey of single mothers, there was one fact that shocked many in the media and the wider community: the majority of these single mothers were in paid employment. The survey revealed that while 78 per cent of survey respondents are in paid employment, 61 per cent are supporting their family on less than $60,000 a year. For low- and even medium-income families, the added pressures of the current housing crisis and rising costs of living make hunger and homelessness real experiences for too many. This Christmas, we're seeing a sharp increase in the number of calls to our Support Line from mothers who are struggling to put any food on the table, let alone presents under the tree. We're urgently seeking donations to support single mother families facing hunger and homelessness this Christmas - your donation will help a single mother family find a way out of poverty and into a brighter future: https://lnkd.in/gTajDBC4

Imagine being forced to choose between your next meal and a roof over your head. For vulnerable people like Tania* and her children, this is the harsh reality of the unrelenting cost-of-living crisis. Rental costs are soaring. Groceries have never been so expensive. And as a result, struggling families like Tania’s are facing impossible choices. At Christmas, these choices are even starker. For many, there’ll be no special meals because there’s rarely enough on the table. And no presents because the rent is overdue. Tania and her three children were at risk of homelessness after escaping an abusive relationship. All she wanted was the best life possible for her kids. But it felt so far out of reach. Driven by the deep love she holds for her children, Tania found the courage to seek help from Vinnies. Tania says that the practical support she's received from Vinnies, made possible by supporters like you, has been life-changing. This Christmas, more and more people just like Tania will be counting on Vinnies to provide accommodation support, food hampers, assistance with household bills, and vital medicines.
