Recently, I’ve been reviewing CVs for a Computer Vision/ML intern position. With over 50 applications, particularly from Ethiopian candidates, I’ve noticed a few common mistakes that can easily be avoided. Here’s what I recommend: 1. Keep it professional: Including personal details like your photo, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and age #doesn’t add value. Stick to your skills, experience, and qualifications. 2. Focus on relevant skills: Listing every course you’ve ever taken or mentioning all certificates (especially Coursera and Udemy) can #dilute the impact. Highlight only the most relevant experiences which are directly related to the position posted. 3. Prioritize your projects: Instead of listing 100 #unrelated skills, show what you’ve done! Your projects and research speak louder about your capabilities than a long list of generic skills. 4. Avoid overcrowding: A cluttered, text-heavy CV is hard to read. Make sure it’s well-organized with clear sections and concise points. Dont make long CV. 5. Align your profile: Ensure that your headline #title, skills, and experiences are consistent. A mismatch can create confusion. 6. Be selective about extracurriculars: #Only mention activities that are relevant and show leadership or teamwork, rather than unrelated experiences like club memberships. This isn’t #criticism—just friendly advice on how to present yourself as the best candidate for any opportunity. Small tweaks can make a big difference in how your application is received. #Interns are an overlooked resource. Rather than look for a candidate with the most experience, or think you can use a #GPT in place of one, look for an intern who shows enthusiasm for your company and the work that needs to be done. If you look at the performance metrics associated with a job, people with passion for a gig will outperform people with experience and training. Find an intern who is really into what you do and then watch them outperform. #hiringdonebetter #standoutapplicants
