Most people think of distracted driving as talking on a cell phone or texting, but distracted driving goes beyond these behaviors. There are three main types of distractions that can interfere with drivers’ attentiveness behind the wheel: 1. Visual distractions – Including looking at texts, vehicle passengers, accidents, and traffic stops 2. Manual distractions – Including texting, adjusting the radio, programming the GPS, and eating 3. Cognitive distractions – Including talking on the phone, talking to other passengers, and letting your mind wander Remember, if something takes your eyes off the road, hands off the wheel, or your mind off of driving, it’s a distraction.
