The four gaps identified were geolocation mapping of estates, e-tracing of palm oil products along the supply chain, labour policies and definition of deforestation-free. https://lnkd.in/gxnyR7Pt

📢New statement from Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) CEO Belvinder Sron on the latest EUDR delay announcement from the EU Commission: “The EU Commission’s announcement that EUDR implementation will be delayed until 30th December 2025 is the right decision. This is a victory for common sense, and a welcome relief for all of those businesses who highlighted the need for a delay. “Malaysian palm oil exporters are able to comply with EUDR: this is not in doubt. Malaysia’s commitment to zero deforestation is written in law. The MSPO standard is the world’s leading mandatory palm oil certification scheme. Malaysia is ready to supply EUDR-compliant, sustainable and traceable palm oil to our European customers. “This delay is a sensible decision to ensure that supply chains around the world have the time to prepare the technical and bureaucratic processes demanded by EUDR.” https://lnkd.in/ev778rcE

Topping the news this day The European People’s Party (EPP) wants to delay implementation of EUDR Indonesian Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan suggests trade deals may help overcome green trade restrictions like EUDR Should Indonesia succeed in implementing B100 biodiesel, The Oil Palm Business Recovery & Rescue Team from ETCAS Consultants projects demand for local consumption to nearly double. Partial solution to meet demand is to have "All land banks and licensed lands also need to be planted immediately, with a target area of 20 million hectares in the next five years." The idle lands as identified by University of Maryland, at 8.8 million hectares, could be a big part of meeting domestic needs for palm oil overall. A sticky point for sustainability could be the difficult question of developing Papua where deforestation is unavoidable. #AlleyesonPapua should accept "the complexity of managing permits and investment in South Papua, as well as the challenges of maintaining a balance between economic development and environmental protection and indigenous peoples' rights." as reported by Info Sawit

As the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) raises the cost of doing business in Europe, the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) is actively exploring alternative markets that offer greater accessibility and fairness. MPOC chief executive officer Belvinder Kaur Sron said markets under consideration include India, China, Asean, Africa and the Middle East, which could provide significant opportunities for Malaysia’s industry players and smallholders. Although Europe remains an important market for Malaysia, Belvinder noted that the implementation of the EUDR poses a significant challenge. Global data research indicates that compliance could cost palm oil producers up to US$1.50 billion (RM6.57 billion). “The EUDR is a non-tariff barrier imposed by the EU. It discriminates against Malaysia’s four major commodities — palm oil, rubber, timber and cocoa — by restricting open market access. https://lnkd.in/g2GcjFeb
