At our #NetZeroForum Opening Plenary, Adair Turner provides some much-needed optimism. Cost decreases and adoption rates for key transition technologies are progressing significantly faster than even the most optimistic predictions from 15 years ago. Industries with no net-zero pathways in 2008 now have clear routes to decarbonization. We can make this transition happen!

It was great to see Digital Radio Mondiale take a big step forward in adoption at the IBC Show, with many cost-effective receivers now in full production. DRM is technology designed to deliver high-quality audio and digital services to the 3 billion of us who aren’t yet internet connected. It’s massively more energy efficient than internet terminals and infrastructure. I am delighted to share that together with our strategic partner Singtel we completed the world’s first live implementation of app-based network slicing. The implementation, using an advanced network slicing technology known as User Equipment Route Selection Policy (URSP) with Application Detection Control (ADC), was tested using Singtel’s CAST application during the live streaming of the recent Australian Open. With this technology, app owners will be able to activate a dedicated, customised slice of Singtel’s 5G network to boost the performance of their apps and enhance user experience. With URSP features, consumers can customise their profile to enable better use of 5G RAN Slicing with Quality of Service. Performance based business models will address the full potential of digitalisation by improving the application experience with differentiated connectivity performance, thereby making performance an important differentiator in future networks.
