As we wrap up the #16DaysOfActivism, we honor the strength of survivors who inspire us every day. Their courage highlights the critical need for action. No one should ever face violence, and every survivor must have access to the support they need for healing. In our latest article, "Addressing the Unseen Wounds: The Importance of Mental Health in Combating Gender-based Violence (GBV)", we delve into the profound psychological impacts of GBV and the essential role trauma-informed care plays in the recovery process. It is not enough to address the physical effects, we must ensure that mental health support is integral to any response to GBV. As we mark the beginning of Suicide Prevention Month, we are reminded of the critical need to address mental health within our communities. NCAI Secretary Nickolaus D. Lewis of the Lummi Nation speaks powerfully to this in his message: "If we are to heal as a people, we must work effectively to break the cycles of trauma and strive for a better future for the generations that we will never see." Mental health is often a difficult topic, especially in our Tribal Nations, where the weight of intergenerational trauma is heavy. Yet, it is a conversation we must have. We must create safe spaces to discuss and destigmatize mental health, for in healing ourselves, we also heal our ancestors and our communities. Let us take this month as an opportunity to uplift those who are struggling, to offer support, and to reaffirm our commitment to breaking the cycles of trauma. Together, we can build a future where every generation thrives. #SuicidePreventionMonth #NCAI #NativeMentalHealth #BreakTheCycle

📢To conclude our World Mental Health Day series, we are emphasising the importance of survivor voices in shaping the support they receive. By placing lived experience at the centre of services, we can create a more responsive and effective framework of mental health support for all those impacted by domestic abuse. 🌟SafeLives’ Public Health Approach encourages professionals to actively listen to and incorporate survivor feedback into service design. When survivors feel their voices are heard and their experiences acknowledged, they are more likely to engage with support services and enjoy lives free from abuse. 🌠Through trauma-informed recovery and emotional support, survivors can feel heard, understood and supported to recovery. #SurvivorVoice #TraumaInformedCare #PublicHealthApproach #WorldMentalHealthDay #DomesticAbuse Learn more - https://ow.ly/9tMe50TINWT

Many of us recognise the significance of World Mental Health Day, but do we truly grasp why raising awareness and driving change is so crucial? Sky News recently reported that our court system is contributing to the ongoing trauma experienced by survivors of sexual abuse due to prolonged delays. The Criminal Bar Association has highlighted that it often takes two years for cases to reach trial from the point of charge. Imagine what two years of waiting for justice could mean for survivors: continuous flashbacks, panic attacks, physical illness, sleep issues, and an overwhelming sense of living in constant fear. This is not just a legal delay; it’s an extension of trauma. The need for practical change and greater investment in mental health is urgent. If you or someone you know is feeling emotionally distressed or suicidal, please reach out to the Samaritans at 116 123. #WorldMentalHealthDay #changinglives #menatlhealthmatters #survivorsupport #brownswancounselling

You Are Not Alone If you've experienced Gender-Based Violence (GBV), know this: your mental well-being is crucial, and you are not alone in your journey towards healing. The emotional and psychological scars left by GBV are just as real as the physical ones. Here at Safe Haven Foundation, we understand this deeply, which is why prioritizing your mental health is our mission. The trauma of GBV can trigger a wide range of emotions: fear, anger, sadness, and isolation. These are all valid and deserve acknowledgment. However, finding healthy ways to cope and process these feelings is key to your healing journey. Mental health care is not just about addressing immediate wounds; it's about nurturing long-term well-being, fostering resilience, and rebuilding lives shattered by violence. At Safe Haven Foundation, we stand alongside survivors, advocating for their voices to be heard and ensuring they have access to the holistic support they deserve. Together, let's champion mental health as a cornerstone of empowerment and healing, paving the way towards a future where all survivors of GBV can thrive, reclaim their narratives, and live with dignity and resilience. #checksenseb4ucomment #checksenseb4utalk #safehavenforhealing #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #noexcuseforsexualviolence #EmbraceEmpowerEvolve

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) doesn’t just leave physical scars—it deeply affects the mind, heart, and soul. The trauma of abuse often lingers long after the visible wounds have healed, creating invisible scars that can be equally, if not more, challenging to overcome. Mental health support is not just a luxury; it’s a necessity for survivors. Providing access to compassionate counselling, safe spaces, and tools for emotional recovery is essential for empowering survivors to reclaim their lives and rediscover their strength. Healing from trauma is a journey, and it begins with recognising the importance of holistic care. This 16 Days of Activism, let’s prioritise mental health as a key part of breaking the cycle of GBV. Together, we can help survivors rebuild not just their lives, but their sense of hope and self-worth. Because every survivor deserves to heal, thrive, and feel whole again. #HealingFromTrauma #EndGBV #UbuntuTrust #16DaysOfActivism

As we observe Mental Health Awareness Month, focusing on the crisis among our youth, we wanted to share an insightful dialogue between parents navigating this crisis. Michealle and Katherine are two remarkable mothers who are navigating the complexities of the youth mental health crisis exacerbated by the pandemic. In this candid discussion, they shed light on the challenges their families have faced in accessing suitable mental health support and advocate for systemic change. We recognized the significance of initiating this dialogue to reassure parents, guardians, and loved ones that they are not alone in navigating the journey to find optimal care for youth. Listen to the conversation and join the movement to prioritize mental health support for our youth. Let's break the stigma because no one should suffer in silence. https://lnkd.in/eSXXWkq4 . . . #MentalHealthAwareness #YouthMentalHealth #BehavioralHealth
