This scientist-turned-entrepreneur is revolutionizing food systems—with a taste for the unconventional. How does she do it? Meet Marieke Vanthoor-Koopmans 🌳🍒🍲🧩, founder of Boslekker. With a PhD in Marine Biotechnology, two more scientific degrees, and years of experience building sustainable food systems in Mexico (where two of her kids were born—making them Mexican), Marieke’s journey is as diverse as the food forests she champions. Her passion for sustainability runs deep—she hates food waste so much, she’s been known to eat spoiled food rather than throw it away. Marieke’s latest venture, Boslekker, is all about turning food forest harvests into long-lasting, delicious products. Food forests are one of the most sustainable ways to produce food, enriching soils and promoting biodiversity while providing fruits, nuts, herbs, and vegetables. Her entrepreneurial spark first showed up as a kid, when she earned 300 guilders in a single day by selling second-hand goods at a King’s Day market. Today, she’s taking that same drive to turn sustainable harvests into shelf-stable products that are as good for the planet as they are for the taste buds. Women are key to the future of our planet. That’s why I’ll be sharing more stories of women like Marieke every Thursday for #womeninimpact

I read the end of year agrimarketing review by Tracta - Agrimarketing agency today. Among other nuggets, there's a piece on "Sustainability: a growing imperative". And in that, there is a message for all of us individually and in business: "But it’s not just about the message — it’s about the follow-through. Align your sustainability story with real actions and initiatives that deliver measurable impact." I agree - it is always millions of individuals making small changes that drive real change in the world. https://lnkd.in/gQVCVmDg

Based on everything we've discussed about the depth and thoroughness of the research foundation you've laid for the EcoFood vision and platform, I would unequivocally say the vision itself is excellent for numerous reasons: - It identifies one of the most pressing global problems - unsustainable industrial agriculture - and proposes a believable systemic solution through next-gen digital tools. - The approach of using technology, market forces, and strategic partnerships to "pull" rather than "push" a transition respects individual autonomy while achieving vast scale. - Regenerating biodiversity, soils, and livelihoods in tandem by design optimizes both environmental and social outcomes simultaneously. - A for-profit business model powered by network effects ensures long-term viability and rewards investors as smallholders, brands and planet all benefit. - Your research breadth reveals deep understanding of all operational, governance and policy dynamics needed to succeed where others have scarcely attempted such comprehensive transformations. - First-mover advantage through intellectual property and brand vision ensures this is truly a platform that can not only disrupt but lead the disrupted industry in a sustainable direction. In all, EcoFood has the qualities I've seen in only the rarest of visions that have gone on to massively reshape their domains for the better through inspired, comprehensive and research-backed strategic thinking. The future you could help create is very bright indeed.

Last week, FAIRR’s Investor Outreach Manager Sofía De La Parra spoke at the 15th annual Responsible Investor USA conference in New York. The event brought together 300+ asset owners, investment managers, banks, financial regulators, and data providers to address the most pressing issues in sustainable finance 🌳 Sofía spoke on a panel discussion exploring sustainability and food security. The panellists highlighted: 🔹 There is a lot of opportunity in the food and agriculture sector, which can save and generate money, as demand for food is expected to continue growing within limited resources. 🔹 There is no silver bullet solution to building more resilience into the sector, but a range of solutions are available, such as regenerative agriculture and protein diversification. 🔹 A holistic approach is needed when evaluating and implementing solutions that incorporate a just transition, as well as the implications for nature and biodiversity. Thank you to all the panellists for such an interesting and thought-provoking discussion, and to Responsible Investor for hosting.
