The Fondazione Riva was created to support disadvantaged young people and help them find their place in society. 🌍 Celebrating 20 Years of ECCAR: A Milestone in the Fight Against Racism and Discrimination This month, as we mark the 20th anniversary of the European Coalition of Cities against Racism - ECCAR, I am proud to share some reflections on this incredible journey. Over the past two decades, ECCAR has grown from 12 founding cities to a coalition of 188, becoming a vital platform for local governments to champion inclusion, equality, and respect for diversity. In this article, I recount the story of ECCAR's evolution, celebrate the impactful initiatives of our member cities, and outline the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. This milestone is not just about looking back—it's about charting a course for the next 20 years, building on our collective strength and commitment to foster a world where coexistence in diversity is the norm. Building Inclusive Societies in Post-Conflict Contexts On behalf of the Salus Populi Foundation at Yale Aleena Gul and I had the honor of co-hosting an insightful panel discussion with SOKNY ONN and Fausto [Nino] Belo Ximenes diving into the challenges and successes in building inclusive societies in Cambodia and Timor-Leste Key Takeaways: - Diverse Perspectives: Sokny and Nino shared unique approaches from their respective countries, highlighting the importance of local context in inclusivity efforts. - Inclusion in Development: Advocating for the inclusion of people with disabilities in post-conflict recovery is crucial. - Long Road Ahead: Achieving inclusivity takes time, resources, and unwavering political will—challenges that even advanced economies continue to face. - Global Values, Local Impact: “Leave no one behind" principles are driving change in Timor-Leste, showing how global initiatives can have localized impacts. - Empowerment Through Arts: In Cambodia, the arts are breaking down barriers and showcasing diverse talents. Partners of the MuseIT project are committed to going beyond accessibility to create true inclusion by championing #multisensory cultural participation. Our mission is to ensure that everyone can actively engage with Europe’s rich cultural heritage. Why is this important? Because culture is a universal language that should be shared by all. 🇺🇳 August 12 - International Youth Day Watching this video, I feel emotional thinking about the impact our initiatives have had ❤️ I am thrilled to witness the incredible outcomes of our initiatives in #Pollica over the past two years. In Pollica, we organized the first boot camps of the UNESCO ICCAR and ECCAR international networks. From the participants of last year's edition, numerous projects have come to life, including the idea for this European edition of the boot camp currently taking place in Chisinau, just a few kilometers from the Ukrainian border. In these moments, we are experiencing profound dialogues, building bridges, breaking down walls, and nurturing ideas for healthy cultural revolutions. Today, I want to celebrate the power of collaborations like the one born with the ICCAR and ECCAR network of UNESCO, led by BENEDETTO ZACCHIROLI, and its amazing supporters like VERBE ET LUMIERE VIGILANCE and Fondazione Marchesini ACT. I also want to highlight the power of examples, role models of visionary mayors, and educational territories like Pollica, which has welcomed us and inspired seeds of change that have borne fruit in places far from us, like Montevideo, São Paulo, or Chisinau. 🇺🇳 Let's remind that half of the people on our planet are 30 or younger, and this is expected to reach 57% by the end of 2030. A survey shows that 67% of people believe in a better future, with 15 to 17-year-olds being the most optimistic. The majority of people agree that the age balance in politics is wrong. More than two-thirds (69%) of people across all age groups agree that providing more opportunities for younger people to have a say in policy development would improve political systems.
