People. People respond to people. These past few months, I've found myself saying that over and over again like a broken record. If there is one thing you learn in marketing is that humans -- their stories and their experiences -- is what people respond to (and buy from). That's why most people read reviews before buying or booking -- they'll trust perfect strangers when they share their experiences with a hotel, a chainsaw, a pair of pants or a restaurant. Why someone providing professional services will see better results if they are involved in their marketing, selling themselves, their background and expertise, versus handing over the reins completely to someone else. Why a nonprofit will be more successful in fundraising if they focus on the people they are helping vs. what they provide. For example, a 6-year-old's first dog is a stronger story than the number of dogs that were adopted in one year, the first hot meal someone had in days vs. the amount of the donated food. Why B2B companies are starting to steal marketing principles and trends from B2C businesses. People buy from people.
