🕺International Men’s Day 2024 is today 19th November. Woods Valldata want to help build awareness of the aims of today: to spread the word about the importance of men's physical and mental health. One in eight men in England has suffered from a mental health issue and three out of four suicides are by men. These staggering statistics show us all that we need to take action and help the men we know, who may be struggling. So, think about starting a conversation with a man you know, and remember small actions can have a big impact: • reach out to check how they are and to show that you care, make a call, or send a quick text; • ask ‘how are you feeling’? and ‘how can I help’?; • really listen to what they say, be present and attentive - body language, tone of voice and the emotions behind spoken words can tell you a lot. When we listen with all five senses, others feel seen, heard, and noticed, and it can have a massive effect on what they share; and • show acceptance - let them know ‘it’s okay not to be okay’ and recognise their emotions and try to understand where they’re coming from, so they feel accepted. This can calm any anxieties and relieve any pressure they’ve placed on themselves. Here's some helpful links • https://bit.ly/4ezh9tJ • https://bit.ly/3Z8Yqkf • https://bit.ly/3YX6rqW • https://bit.ly/41aXTQn Take care of yourselves and each other. x

Want to encourage a colleague to open up to you but not sure where to start? Suggest a walk. Taking a stroll, rather than sitting across a desk from each other, provides a distraction and involves less direct eye contact, which in turn may make your colleague feel like they can speak more freely. They may not open up to you the first time, so try to make it a regular lunchtime thing. The more time you spend together, the more they'll feel they can trust you. Walking is good for your mental health and well-being in general, so you'll both benefit from getting your steps in. By consistently practising emotional support for one another at work, 'difficult' conversations can become much easier and happen more naturally, helping us all to open up and share how we're feeling. Set free a happier you - sign up to our newsletter to receive regular insights into mental well-being.

Empowerment lies in addressing mental health challenges. Despite experts raising concerns about the impending workforce challenge, a survey revealed that 64% of workers struggle with mental or behavioral health issues, while only 19% utilized their mental health benefits. The disparity stems from employees' fear of discussion and managers' lack of training. This disconnect results in decreased productivity, higher turnover, and a challenging work environment. However, by fostering a supportive culture and encouraging open dialogue, we can transform the stigma surrounding mental health into strength and progress. https://lnkd.in/esgKteRN

Support our Open Heart Campaign to get people who are struggling with mental health conditions talking & open your heart & chat & listen to them. 😔 With mental health support being overwhelmed with patients needing support, these organisations are overworked & understaffed. The NHS is broken 😞 Over 1/2 million children on the waiting list to see CAMHS they are struggling to cope meaning schools, colleges, universities are also struggling to manage the numbers of pupils needing support. So we are asking YOU the public to help by opening your heart & be willing to listen & talk to someone who just needs someone to talk to. 🤷♀️ All you need to do is show you are willing to talk & listen to anyone struggling with mental health conditions. Sometimes it’s all they need, an ear & a shoulder & a kind hearted person who’s willing to help. 💚 Businesses show your support by purchasing a package of pins & a counter display unit & ask your staff to help reduce the number of sick days that are taken because people are stressed, depressed & not coping in the workplace. Maybe seeing someone with a green heart on could help many people in your organisation that are secretly struggling. 🤐 Full details about this campaign are on our website and how to order your pins. https://lnkd.in/ewR7hZzc Pin’s come with a card that has a QR code on it to scan which sends you to our site for tips on how to start a conversation & places like Samaritans should you need to signpost someone for further help. Do something good by showing your support & that you are willing to sit & listen & chat to someone. Start an Open Heart coffee morning inviting people to come & speak to you & others. ☕️ @everyone #mentalhealth #support #talk #listen 💚

Would you Open your heart & help people struggling with mental health. Here’s how …. When you go to your hairdresser or having your nails done or going to your gp do you offload & tell them about your life at the moment. 🤷♀️ Sometimes it’s just good to let off steam, rant, say how you’re feeling … right? So you know what I mean, it’s good to talk to someone & you feel better for doing so ? 💬 So would you be willing to wear a green heart pin and allow people to talk to you & lend your ears & shoulders to them? 👂🎧☕️ With the numbers of people struggling with mental health issues at the moment we felt there had to be more support out there. Someone might just need someone to talk to & someone to listen to them. 🤷♀️ The waiting lists for professional support is massive. CAMHS have 500,000 kids on their waiting lists. The NHS is struggling to meet the growing numbers of those needing help. So we want YOU to join our campaign to get people talking about how they feel & it could even save someone life 😔 Buying a Green Heart Pin symbolises you will open your heart & are prepared to help. Maybe start an Open Heart Community drop in session & let people know they can come & talk to someone. 💚 Take a look at our webpage where we have lots of information on how to start a conversation with someone & other help for you. There is also links to signpost people to if you think it would help them further. https://lnkd.in/ewR7hZzc Pins can be bought in our shop in ipswich. As more locations take on the pins we will signpost it on our website & on here. They can be ordered on our website too. 💚 @everyone

Men's health is in crisis. Suicide is the second biggest cause of death in young men up to the age of 19. Men Who Talk is a charitable organisation created by men, for men. It offers different, less intensive spaces where men can support each other, sharing what they wish. This is not counselling or therapy, but a chance for men of all backgrounds, through the power of chat and conversation, to see that it is OK to receive help and to talk to others. If you want to learn more about Men Who Talk, please visit the link below for details about their free online groups. If you think this would be suited to someone you're worried about, please share this with them. I'm taking part in Movember to raise awareness of men's health, direct people to the many sources of practical support, and fundraise vital funds that invest directly into the projects undertaken by Movember. If you want to donate to help reach my £250 target, please visit this link: https://lnkd.in/eN-GAW6t. "Trust your instinct. Our society has adapted to the idea of drinking alcohol to relax after work. This could be in the form of post work socials or reverting to the bottle at home. If drinking becomes a habit, we may become dopamine-deficient, which could lead to us experiencing low mood. This is just one of the effects that alcohol can have on the brain and there are many more both short-term and long-term. Earlier this week we visited Sky to deliver a seminar on ‘Alcohol and mental health’. The team there understand how important it is to look after the mental wellbeing of the workforce and that alcohol is a crucial part of that conversation. You can find out more about alcohol and mental health by visiting our website. alcoholchange.org.uk #AlcoholAwarenessWeek #Seminars #Training #Workplacewellbeing
