One of the clearest learnings from our North American Study Tour was to see firsthand the impact of great school leadership. We saw examples of principals and other leaders profoundly shaping a school, building a culture of excellence and high expectations for all students that allowed all students to achieve to their potential. If you are a mathematics leader and are looking for inspiration, one source that you may want to consult is the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (NCSM: Leadership in Mathematics Education): https://lnkd.in/eYXzMfh7 Although they are US based, many of NCSM’s resources are just as applicable to mathematics leaders here in Australia as they are to those across the ocean and a great many can be freely accessed online. These include their Journal of Mathematics Education Leadership: https://lnkd.in/gwkERfv7, position papers on topics such as leading with technology, flexible grouping practices and the role of primary maths specialists: https://lnkd.in/ew6Jy623 and even a monthly podcast Learning with Leaders: We Are ALL Math People. #mathseducation #mathsedau #educationalleadership

✨ "But effective school leadership does not develop organically: behind there needs to be purposeful training and development, professional selection procedures, standards, distribution of leadership tasks, career incentives, networks and feedback and support for them to be able to exercise this vital position." - by Beatriz Pont from International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP-UNESCO) ✨ We believe that school leaders play a vital role in setting students up for success. What if you could transform your school into a 21st century leader in the world? That's exactly what "The School Doc" is doing. He is helping schools completely transform their old and outdated school systems into 21st century leaders in education. And it starts with creating a NEW VISION for the future of education. "Albert Einstein said you cannot solve problems with the same mindset that created them," said The School Doc. "That means, if you want to create a 21st century school, you first need to learn a new 21st century mindset." And that's what he is doing. Teaching school teachers, leaders and communities how to learn this new 21st century mindset and then how to transform their schools from the old way of doing things - to the 21st century way of teaching and learning. And it's not as complicated as it sounds. "There are only three major components to a 21st century school," said The School Doc. "There's the 21st century curriculum, which is then taught by 21st century teachers, who are supervised by 21st century administrators. When you fix all three elements, you have yourself a 21st century school." If you want to learn more -- send a DM to this account. Looking forward to speaking with you soon and good luck with the rest of the school year! #education #innovation #21stcenturylearning #21stcenturyskills #teachers #schoolprincipals #educationalleadership #disruptingeducation

We are excited to lead on ‘Why is Analysing Curriculum Provision Essential?’ At the Association of School and College Leaders! Please join me, in partnership with ASCL, on 9th April 2024, available for members and non-members! The education system makes huge assumptions about the value of repeating past practice. In an ever-changing world, school leaders need to connect all the elements of constraint: finance, personnel, and performance requirements. School MIS systems and key personnel are the gatekeepers of some of this information, but it is rarely analysed holistically, making it difficult for leaders to see the impact curriculum, staffing and budget decisions have on one another. Ensuring your curriculum provision is ethical in providing equity for learners and staff, effective in delivering successful outcomes for learners, and financially efficient has never been more important. True integration of ideas, practice and intent is formed by insightful analytics and joined-up thinking. I will explore what has been achieved in schools and trusts nationally where genuinely connected leadership and analysis have positively impacted learners, staff and leaders. https://lnkd.in/eZgmy4AH #ASCLNewHeads #education #leadership #headteacher #principal #secondaryeducation #primaryeducation

Wonderful to be listening to Pasi Sahlberg and Glenn Savage as they encourage young people to reflect on what school might be at Australian Council for Educational Leaders - ACEL National Conference … and so disheartening to listen to their experience of how their schools reasserted control of learning following the pandemic to revert to the status quo of education done to students not with and for and by students. Every idea, every innovation about voice and agency, character and competency, personalisation and enterprise that these precociously wise learners are suggesting to make their schools more future-facing has been suggested repeatedly by so many advocates since I attended my first ACEL conference in 1993. And we just don’t seem to want to do it. We just don’t seem to want to change the game. We talk about it. But we don’t actually do it. Why not? I’m eager to learn from colleagues about what it is that will actually change. I want to hear about strategies and approaches that don’t replicate the failed attempts of the past two decades. I believe that we change the world one student at a time, one classroom at a time, one school at a time. But only if we want to do it. Do we really want to change the game? #education #leadership #letsgo

Omgosh, every #OpenEducation person in Australia, read, bookmark, and share this thread! 🤩 There is already such valuable info there from Rajiv and the first few respondents — and it’ll only grow as more people find the thread and contribute their knowledge and experience to the conversation. Let’s help each other to build institutional capacity for #OpenEducationalPractice. Rajiv says he is “especially interested in tactics that are relatively low-effort or that are one-time projects but that pay significant dividends over time.” I.e. strategies that any institution can employ to get the ball rolling. So, check it out. Learn some stuff. Add some stuff. Share all of it. #OER #OEP #OpenEducationalResources #OpenEd #OpenTextbooks #OpenPedagogy #HigherEducation #PostSecondaryEducation
#OEGBoardViews OEG Board member, Rajiv Jhangiani is chatting about tactics and strategies to build institutional capacity for open educational practices.
