I’m late to #NationalInternDay celebration but I want to share the top 3 lessons that can help interns demonstrate leadership and thrive in today’s corporate world, ▪ Lead without authority  ▪ Collaborate ▪ Create visibility To all the interns out there, it is extremely important to create visibility in your organization by conscious self-branding to show the impact of your work and how it contributes to the big picture. Here are my top five lessons that have helped me for the past 8 years, 1️⃣ Ownership: Never restrict to the scope of your job description. Think beyond the roles and responsibilities. 2️⃣ Initiative: Always look for opportunities to improve things, faster, and more efficiently, and keep sharing them with your team.  3️⃣ Solve the problem: Come up with a “Solution”, rather than merely identifying the problems.  4️⃣ Network: Persistently network to seek guidance from your mentors to outpace opportunity and build meaningful connections. 5️⃣ Know your goals : Explore opportunities within your organization and set a career path that aligns well with your aspirations. 💡 By being a true leader, you’ll complete tasks faster and more efficiently and improve overall team performance. #CareerAdvice #Leadership #Mentor #ProfessionalJourney #LifeLessons

Before I get into the meat of this caption, let me first say that I absolutely love this photo. It completely captures the joy that I felt in seeing my second book, The Unexpected Leader, in print and on display, taking up a full row of one of my bookshelves. (now that that’s out of the way)… I have participated in a lot of leadership training over the past couple weeks, some in my role as a leadership consultant with Scarlet, but many others instances in my role as a student. Whether you are the expert in a situation or a novice, let’s all commit to giving ourselves permission to being a continuous learner. Leadership development and growth happens to be one of those areas that you can benefit from at every age and stage of your life. So, whether you are transitioning from: - high school to college - college to your first internship - an internship to a full-time employee - individual contributor to leading people - a people leader to an executive role - a full time employee to entrepreneur - a stay at home parent back to a job …there CAN be space in your life for additional leadership development. Let’s make a deal. How did you get over not getting a job you really wanted? "I've been there. It really hurts. I lost out to an external candidate which is understandable if they scored more points. What I wish happened though is some proper coaching and support afterwards which never happened. They should want to support staff to move up. Surely any good manager should want that rather than just quick feedback and then ignore the elephant in the room for the rest of eternity.
