Raise your awareness of rights retention with these resources to help researchers #RetainYourRights! Better understanding of the rights to research outputs and policy frameworks for #RightsRetention is essential to opening #AccessToKnowledge and reusability for the benefit of society, science and education. Authors and research institutions can keep sufficient rights to make their research outputs available for immediate #OpenAccess and reuse. When research is publicly funded, making it openly available aligns with the principle that public investments should generate public benefits. SPARC Europe leads #ProjectRetain to accelerate the uptake of rights retention policies that empower authors and researchers to share and reuse their work. Building a Community of Practice around rights retention is one way we do this. 📫 Join the Retain mailing list to become part of the rights retention Community of Practice: https://lnkd.in/eKxjma8i. As part of Project Retain’s second phase, SPARC Europe and KnowledgeRights21 have created several rights retention resources to help authors, research institutions, and publishers navigate rights retention. 📑 Read our position paper, Retaining rights in research outputs to enable the open dissemination of knowledge: https://lnkd.in/ebGPcti5 💻 Visit the #RetainYourRights webpage to learn more about rights retention and to take action: https://lnkd.in/eww_7zXd.

It's #OpenAccessWeek, but are we losing the forest through the trees in the transition to an OA world? The success in OA output proves how much can be accomplished when stakeholders share a common goal. I argue in this blog post that it should also embolden us to tackle the next frontier: maximizing the impact of research and building global research capacity in meaningful ways.

💡 𝗞𝗥𝟮𝟭 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘀𝘂𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸 🤔 How can we unlock the full potential of European research and innovation in the face of paywalls and restrictive publishing models? 🗣️ “Secondary publishing rights can enable researchers to safely upload their research on public repositories,” explains Giannis Tsakonas (University of Patras), Vice-President of LIBER Europe and KR21 management committee member. 💭 𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄? Secondary Publishing Rights (SPR) refers to the right to republish publicly funded research after its first publication in an open access repository or elsewhere. I hope that this capsule will convey the message. It is a KnowledgeRights21 knowledge capsule, densely decribing what Secondary Publishing Right is, so, ideally, it should not last long (not a time capsule to be buried) and quickly we have a European harmonized Secondary Publishing Right that sets the conditions for equitable Open Access for all Member States (and beyond, of course).
