Forget relying solely on your resume. In today's competitive job market, strategic networking is your secret weapon for landing your dream role. Here's why: ✅ Unlock hidden opportunities: Your resume reaches a limited pool of recruiters. But by building a network of professionals in your industry, you gain access to a treasure trove of unadvertised positions and inside information. ✅The power of referrals: A referral from a trusted connection carries significant weight. It tells employers you're pre-vetted, qualified, and a good cultural fit – a major advantage in a crowded applicant pool. ✅More than hiring managers: Even if your connections aren't decision-makers themselves, they can still be invaluable advocates. They can connect you with the right people and provide insights into the company culture and challenges. ✅Position yourself as a problem-solver: Strategic networking isn't just about asking for favors. It's about showcasing your expertise and how you can solve the company's specific problems. This makes you a valuable asset even before you apply. Building your network takes effort. Developing a strong network requires dedication and planning. Here are some ideas to help you get started: ➡ Identify your target audience: Who do you want to connect with? Research industry leaders, potential employers, and professionals in your field. ➡Leverage online platforms: Connect with people on LinkedIn, industry forums, and professional groups. Participate in online discussions to establish your expertise. ➡ Attend industry events: Networking events are a fantastic way to meet like-minded people in a casual setting. ➡ Nurture relationships: Networking isn't a one-time transaction. Stay in touch with your connections, offer your help when possible, and provide value whenever you can. Investing in your network is an investment in your future career success. By building genuine connections and showcasing your expertise, you can unlock doors that a resume alone can't open. So, start building your network today and watch your job search take off! Has a job seeker asked for a networking call? If you have never been in Active Job Search, you may wonder how you can add the most value during the call. First, let's talk about what people normally say on this call: "Take a look at our company website, and let me know if you see anything" "Send me your resume and I will send it on to others if they have an opening" "Happy to give you feedback on your resume" or such job search advice. While all are well meaning: The job seeker knows that once the job is posted on the website, they are 6-8 weeks too late. They need to meet others in your company in their function to learn more about the company and to "get on radar screens" before the jobs become posted. They likely don't need help on their resume....they probably are adjusting it too much already. Instead of sending off a resume to someone, consider introducing the job seeker to the person. If you really want to be helpful, here's some suggestions of what you can say. "Who in my network would you like to meet?" "How else can I help you?" The real value to the job seeker is to help them expand their network and get the word out that they are available. Your introduction can be the catalyst to change the course of someone's career! So next time you meet with a job seeker, please ask that one question--who else do you want to meet? If you have networked with job seekers in the past, what other ways have you found you can help them? #cpgmentor #cpgjobs

Why Applying for Jobs Through Job Boards is Ineffective and How to Get Better Results Job boards are a common go-to for many job seekers. While they offer an easy way to apply to multiple jobs, relying solely on job boards can be surprisingly ineffective. Here's why: ⛔ High Competition: Job boards attract numerous applicants, making it hard for your resume to stand out. Each posting can receive hundreds of applications, reducing your chances of being noticed. ⛔ Generic Applications: Many job seekers use a one-size-fits-all resume for job board applications, resulting in submissions that lack specificity and fail to highlight unique qualifications. ⛔ Impersonal Process: Job boards offer limited interaction and lack the ability to showcase a candidate's personality or cultural fit. ⛔ Limited Network Exposure: Job boards don’t leverage personal connections, which are crucial in the job search. Referrals and network introductions can be far more effective. (Hint hint, get a recruiter) ⛔ Delayed Responses: The sheer volume of applications can lead to delayed or no responses, leaving candidates in limbo. Strategies for More Effective Job Searches: 🔎 Leverage Your Network: Networking is one of the most powerful job-hunting tools. Reach out to friends, family, former colleagues, and industry connections. Attend industry events, join professional groups, and participate in online forums. Personal connections can provide insights into unadvertised positions and offer valuable referrals. 🔎 Customize Your Application: Tailor your resume for each job application. Highlight your relevant skills and experiences that match the job description. This shows potential employers that you’ve put thought and effort into your application. 🔎 Use LinkedIn Strategically: Optimize your LinkedIn profile with relevant keywords, engage with content in your field, and connect with recruiters and industry professionals. You can use LinkedIn’s job search tool but reach out to the recruiters or hiring managers. 🔎 Reach Out Directly: Don’t hesitate to contact companies directly, even if they haven’t posted a job opening. Sending a well-crafted email expressing your interest and detailing how you can add value to the company can set you apart. 🔎 Work with Recruiters: Professional recruiters can provide access to exclusive job openings and offer personalized guidance throughout the job search process. They can also advocate on your behalf and help negotiate better job offers. #JobSearchTips #Recruitment #CareerAdvice #JobHunting #ResumeTips #HiringStrategies

One of my #transitioningTeacher clients got recruited on LinkedIn and got a new role! This is why I take networking so seriously. Yes update your resume… But after that, use your resume to optimize your LinkedIn 💡 If you take one stick, you can break it in half. If you take 20 sticks in a bundle and try to break the bundle in half… you won’t have a chance❌ You can think about networking in the same way! Alone, the job search process can break you (not that it will... but it CAN break you in half like a lone stick) If you utilize your network (get together like a bundle of sticks!) you will be more powerful, more resilient, your reach will be farther, you will be able to withstand the stress of this wild job search market. Reach out to a friend for help from their network- your network doubles. Reach out to 10 people- your network expands 10X! Networking is powerful! Use it to be strong, use it to advance your search, use it! Don’t know where to start? Start with me! Reach out to me (networking practice!) and I will help you expand your network and achieve your job searching goals! ——————————————————————— 💡Do me a favor and like, share and comment on this post for reach. ✏️Click here for a free resume review and career consultation: https://lnkd.in/eEY3XEak

Think sending out resumes is the only way to land a job? Think again. Networking plays a role in over 70% of hires, especially for positions that never make it to job boards. These connections aren’t just about finding open roles—they provide insights, advice, and even referrals that set you apart. Of course, networking isn’t a shortcut. It requires effort. Building trust, showcasing your expertise, and engaging authentically take time. But the rewards? Career-changing. With JobQuest, you have the tools to craft a resume that complements your networking efforts, ensuring you’re prepared when those doors open. Ready to network your way into your next job? The biggest career mistake? Thinking your resume is enough. Here’s the truth: Relationships—not resumes—land opportunities. You can have a flawless CV, but if no one in your target industry knows your name, how far will it really take you? Here’s a moment that sticks with me: Someone reached out to me recently, frustrated by countless job applications with no response. Their resume was good, but something was missing—connections. After we focused on building relationships, through informational interviews, strategic outreach, and authentic conversations, the results were transformative. They didn’t just apply for roles—they were referred for them. That’s why: ↳ A resume tells your story, but relationships spread it. ↳ Employers trust recommendations from people they know. ↳ The hidden job market opens only through trusted networks. Here’s the core principle: Connections amplify your career far beyond credentials. When you prioritize relationships: ↳ You gain insider knowledge that no job posting reveals. ↳ People advocate for your skills and character. ↳ Opportunities come to you, not the other way around. What works instead: ↳ Reach out to people—not just companies—with genuine curiosity. ↳ Nurture trust by showing up consistently, offering value, and listening. ↳ Don’t just network; build real connections that last. 2025 isn’t about simply polishing resumes. It’s about making your name known through trust and relationships. Take one step today: Join my free webinar where I'd be sharing actionable networking strategies to position you for better opportunities in 2025 and beyond. Check my first comment for the link.
