"We aspire to leave the world a better place for the next generation - and for much of recent history we have achieved that. But for the next generation of Australians, it's not at all clear that things will be as rosy. "The later millennials - those born in the late 1990s - have not yet seen the same progress in their living standards. Incomes for this group are no higher than those born in the 1980s at the same age." In a video message for AMPLIFY's community deliberation on the intergenerational divide, our chair Danielle Wood answers the question 'What is the generational contract?' and elaborates on the challenges to maintaining the contract owed to future generations. "First is what's happening with the housing market, second is the tax and transfer system, and third is the impact of climate change."
