PH21 Gallery presents: 'Silence' – A Curated International Photography Exhibition, January 11 – February 4, 2025 - Silence is always juxtaposed against its opposites: sound, noise, and loudness. It is strongly associated with loneliness, alienation, the unknown and disturbing landscape on the one hand, and known tranquillity and peace on the other. Photographically, the contrast between deep darkness and dazzling light is also crucial. After natural or social catastrophes, everything falls silent: empty cities, villages, abandoned public transport and empty workplaces serve as reminders of the transience and fragility of humankind. Silence is accompanied by quiet activities such as contemplation and meditation, which negate the very nature of action itself. Additionally, silence is often present in still lifes, cityscapes, portraits, and many other photographic genres. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for our group exhibition themed Silence. We welcome submissions from all photographers interested in sharing their experiences of silence with a broader international audience through exposure at PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed without any photographic genre restrictions. We are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the theme. Deadline: November 11, 2024. https://lnkd.in/esz24kxp #TheArtList #PH21Gallery #Silence

PH21 Gallery presents: 'Upside down ' – A Curated International Photography Exhibition, February 8 – March 4, 2025. While photographs are valued for their depictive potential and representative content, the non-depictive, non-representational aspects of photographic works are also strongly related to their aesthetic significance. In this spirit, art photography has always aimed for the unity of form and content. Abstract photography has gone even further, celebrating abstract compositions for their own sake, without the need for appreciating or even recognising depictive content in the images. Turning a photograph upside down tends to strip it of its representative function because the depicted scene and objects are difficult, if not impossible, to recognise when the image is turned on its side or upside down. However, the formal, compositional aspects of photographs become more pronounced in this manner, as our attention is directed away from scene and object recognition. In our Upside down exhibition, we aim to showcase photographs that are indeed turned upside down. Any photograph is eligible if the artist is willing to present it in this unconventional way. Abstract photographs might be considered the most suitable candidates for this experimental exhibiting method, but there are many depictive works as well whose compositional qualities might also be appreciated in novel ways when turned upside down. This allows us to liberate ourselves from scrutinizing and concentrating solely on their representational content. Deadline: December 09, 2024. https://lnkd.in/ePjrzTJQ #TheArtList #PH21Gallery #UpsideDown

In my photographic work for construction and industrial sites, I find inspiration in the unique textures and forms of concrete and structures. Through an artistic reinterpretation process, I transform these industrial surfaces into ethereal clouds, abstract strokes, and dreamlike landscapes.I complement these compositions with characters and elements also derived from the same industrial environments, giving them new life as fantastical beings inhabiting imaginary realms. Each piece is a manifesto of art's ability to transcend the ordinary and elevate the everyday into realms of beauty and fantasy. I invite the viewer to immerse themselves in these creations where the industrial transforms into the ethereal.Through my work, I celebrate how the artist can reinvent their environment, find magic in unexpected places, and create new worlds from humble elements. My works remind us that creativity knows no bounds, and beauty can emerge from the most unsuspecting corners. #saachyart #collage #digital #photography

Following the success of the UNITY exhibition at The Photography & Video Show, I'm looking for a temporary space to hang the work. Comprised 21 foam-mounted prints (20, 70x70cm and one 70x100cm courtesy of nPhoto) do you know a company with lobby space that might be interested in featuring some/all of the exhibition? UNITY is the fourth international exhibition from my online gallery space, Felt Photographic. What makes it different is that it's curated entirely on the felt sense - from how the panel select images, to how the gallery is arranged, and the space that visitors are invited into. The aim is to bring art back to a more human experience. There's no requirement to know anything about photography or what you're looking at. The invitation is to unlearn everything you've previously been taught, come out of your head, drop into your body and feel the art. Then notice what you're responding strongly too and use this insight to inform you where you're at, what you need and what might change as a result. To change the world, we must first change ourselves, and art helps us do this in the most beautiful way. See more at https://lnkd.in/eu5Y-8SM

PH21 Gallery presents: 'Dis/harmony' – A Curated International Photography Exhibition - Harmony is an elusive, perhaps even ineffable aspect of photographic images. The same can be said for disharmony, its potentially disturbing, but often stimulating opposite. While many photographers share the view that the communicative impact of images is enhanced by harmony, there are countless individual artistic interpretations of what makes an image harmonious or disharmonious. Some view harmony primarily as a visual compositional feature, accepting the unusual, the unexpected, or even the disturbing within the realm of compositional harmony or disharmony. For others, harmony is also a thematic concept, and they find harmonious elements in the communicative content of the image, arising from the various interactions depicted. The intentional lack of harmony can also lead to some of the most creative photographic compositions. All photographic genres utilise compositional elements to create the sense of harmony or its opposite. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for its group exhibition themed Dis/harmony. We are seeking submissions from all photographers who consider harmony or disharmony to be a constitutive element in their work and who wish to share their art with a wider international audience through PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed; harmony or disharmony may be present as a formal aesthetic feature and can be expressed visually on personal or social levels, whether literally or in abstract, symbolic ways. Deadline: October 14, 2024. https://lnkd.in/eaY6e2jj #TheArtList #PH21Gallery #Dis/harmony

🎨 Who Is the Stieglitz of Digital Art? 🎨 I recently dove into the works of Alfred Stieglitz, who was instrumental in elevating photography from a mere technical process to a true art form. Through his periodical Camera Work, Stieglitz not only curated the best photographers but was almost obsessive about the quality of reproduction—ensuring that every image was presented with the utmost precision. His insistence on perfection in how the work was displayed was key to its artistic recognition. 📸✨ This focus on the medium is even more critical in digital art, where the artwork often exists as nothing more than a file. The way it’s displayed—on a screen, through projection—becomes a part of the artwork itself and demands the same level of care. So, who today is taking up this role for digital art? Who is ensuring that both the creation and the presentation of digital works meet the highest standards? For me, Braw Haus stands out as a key reference in France and Europe. Who is your reference? 🤔 #DigitalArt #ArtAndTechnology #LegalPerspective #BrawHaus #ArtisticStandards

Paul Hart’s current exhibition @harleyfoundation includes this commanding image of a lead pine tree growing a the forest edge entitled Guardian. Gerry Badger wrote in Paul’s publication Truncated from which this exhibition and this photograph is carefully selected, that; “the sense of being at rest within it [the forest], of stopping still at a particular place and paying close attention to what is there is strong. Photography is the natural medium for meditation, freezing objects in space and time for our scrutiny. It does this especially felicitously in the case of people, that is, in the portrait, but the same strategy utilised to make a portrait – we might call it benign confrontation – also works well with natural and man-made objects. Paul Hart’s images of single trees function like portraits, highlighting character and nuanced individualities – with one important difference. Trees do not react like people when a camera is pointed at them. Tree ‘portraits’ depend solely upon the sensibility of the photographer. And yet, there is a distinct anthropomorphic aspect to trees. Of all natural objects, trees seem closest to man. It is clearly something to do with them being upright, perhaps the way their branches seem like arms. This is what draws Paul Hart (and us) to them, each tree has an individual character. Here, perhaps because they are pines, they are not so individualistic as some other species of trees. They are like sentries, a little stiff in bearing, guarding the landscape.” This photograph of Guardian as an artist made selenium toned silver gelatin print is available framed or unframed as a single work or as part of the series via the gallery, info@thetreeartgallery.com or via the website. The exhibition continues until the 14th July. #thetreeartgallery #treeart #trees #treephotography #paulhart #blackandwhitephotography #contemporaryart #contemporaryphotography #pinetree #derbyshire #forests
