A big component of #WomensHealth is #ReproductiveHealth, something that The Challenge Initiative (TCI) is particularly focused on improving, especially among the urban poor. Local ownership and system readiness are essential to address challenges in women's reproductive health, so I am shining a light on this today. How can we make International Day of Action for Women’s Health a day of ACTION rather than just awareness?

Did you know that all my work in #healthequity, including BIPOC perinatal mental health, led me to pursue my current doctoral work in educational equity? We desperately need Black, Brown, and other historically marginalized clinicians in #healthcare, but so many of us don't make it to and through 6-12 years of higher ed/med school, getting licensed, and staying in the field. That was almost my story. But that's a different #DEIA adventure for another time. Making a real shift in less than stellar outcomes for all birthing people, and these unequal health outcomes for Black women shared by Joel Bervell, takes systemic change. We need all hands on deck. What are you doing to make a difference? Start by supporting one of our North Carolina partners, Equity Before Birth. And if you made it this far, DM me to learn more about supporting The PUSHES project, a #mentalhealth equity initiative at Bridges Family Life Center, PLLC . We need partners like you. #RethinkRelationship #BMHW #Nonprofit #MaternalHealth #Mothers

This past week, from April 11th-17th, was Black Maternal Health Week - a time to raise awareness about the staggering racial disparities in maternal health. Black women in the US are 3x as likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than white women. Join me in supporting the Black Mamas Matter Alliance and other reproductive justice organizations working towards equity in maternal and reproductive health. #BlackMaternalHealthWeek #StandWithBlackWomen
