Is social care really seen as a profession? 🤔 In our latest podcast clip, Julie Garrity dives into a thought-provoking discussion on why social care in the UK is often undervalued. Julie highlights how care has evolved from multi-generational family homes to professional services. Yet, the perception hasn’t caught up with reality. Many still see caregiving as something that doesn’t require skill or training—a mindset that overlooks the massive responsibilities carers shoulder every day. Her words struck a chord: ‘It’s not seen as a profession and it’s not seen as anything that you couldn’t do yourself. And that’s not true.’ This conversation sheds light on the cultural shifts and challenges within social care and why we need to give carers the respect and recognition they deserve. What do you think it will take to change perceptions of social care as a profession? Let us know in the comments.

As leaders, many of us have encountered workplace injuries, often focusing on physical risks and implementing various measures to mitigate them. However, some injuries are not physical but rather psychological, making them harder to prevent. Working in human services has exposed me to these psychological impacts, emphasising the importance of handling them with care, compassion, and empathy. While employees don't intend to get injured, businesses also want to avoid such incidents for various reasons, and navigating workers' compensation can be challenging for all parties involved. However, there's a company revolutionising how we perceive and support injured workers, shifting the focus from disempowerment to empowerment through innovative rehabilitation programs. This podcast promises valuable insights for leaders on preventing and supporting staff during injuries and navigating the workers' compensation process, ultimately de-stigmatising workplace injuries. Produced by and for injured workers, it's essential listening for leaders, business owners, or anyone involved in return-to-work efforts, offering a fresh perspective on this critical issue. #mentalhealth #leadership #returntowork
