Recent reflections on the hospitality industry from 2024: 50% of students at a university’ parties weren’t drinking—a clear differentiation from the social norms of a decade ago. This reflects a broader trend we’re seeing in the industry: wellness-focused clubs are on the rise. Take Maison Estelle and Estelle Manor and the dedicated wellness offering, or the rise of spa-integrated clubs that appeal to younger generations prioritising self-care. The Global Wellness Summit 2024 reinforces this trend, showing that wellness is a significant driver for membership clubs and hospitality spaces alike. At the same time, the casual dining sector has shown promising signs of recovery. With a 1.7% increase in mid-market restaurants—equating to an average of three new openings per week in the first half of 2024—there’s clear consumer demand for accessible, quality dining. Operators like Dishoom and Caravan are restaurants leading the way, focusing on local sourcing, pared-back menus, and digital innovations. Of course, challenges remain including rising costs and staffing shortages, but these trends highlight the industry’s adaptability, innovation, and enduring appeal. #HospitalityTrends #WellnessInHospitality #CasualDining #CopperBeechInsights #2024Reflections

In hospitality, you’ve got to let a lot of things go and focus on what you can do. Whether it’s accommodating plant-based milk, gluten-free, or dairy-free requests, the key is to cater to people’s needs. This is the world we live in, and if you can’t adapt, hospitality might not be the right fit. It’s all about making customers feel comfortable and giving them what they need—without letting the small things get to you. 🌱💡 #HospitalityLife #CustomerCare #Adaptability #ServiceWithASmile #CateringToEveryone #CustomerExperience #FoodIndustry #BusinessMindset

Our Managing Director Matt Thomas features in this week's edition of The Caterer discussing the 2024 trends in office culture. Matt highlights in the article that... "Food will remain the primary catalyst for people returning to the office – food creates engagement, collaboration and happiness. Some of the pressures around the availability of people have softened and we've retained our people – historically attrition was 34%-38%, but we're now at 25%. What's interesting is when growth occurs, people learn that they can stay with the same employer and grow their skillset, which is really important." "Finally, good quality caterers will talk about environmental, social and governance, net zero and social promise, and that should continue. We should be confident in leading the charge in those areas." On the one hand, it's great that Hilton Hotels & Resorts are doing something positive to tackle #foodwaste. On the other, much of this is just good culinary practice: if I were a shareholder, I would want to know why they weren't already doing many of these things across the estate to maximise margins. And, as the article says: "why this is a month-long initiative and not a permanent one remains unclear". Also noteworthy that they are partnering with Winnow to help track what gets wasted - I'm seeing this more and more as food manufacturers and hospitality operators have to make the case for tackling food waste. #food #sustainability #hospitality #hotels #restaurants
