On the fringe of INC-5 in Busan, South Korea, we hosted an event centered on a just transition for waste pickers and implementing responsible sourcing practices. Attendees of the event gained insights into the informal sector and the lives of waste pickers, best practices on responsible sourcing with case examples from plastics recycling value chains in Indonesia and India, and how to use the Harmonized Responsible Sourcing Framework for Recycled Plastics. We sincerely thank all speakers and panelists for their valuable contributions to this dialogue and for continuing these important conversations as we work together to ensure a more inclusive and sustainable plastics supply chain. Speakers: Ellen Martin (The Circulate Initiative), Maditlhare Koena (International Alliance of Waste Pickers & the South Africa Waste Pickers), Lucia Karina (Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Indonesia), Ardhina Zaiza (Mahija Parahita Nusantara), Indumathi (Alliance of Indian Wastepickers & Thyajya Shramika Sangha) with translation provided by Akbar Allahbaksh, Resa Boenard (Women’s Waste Collector Association) and Vijaya Raghava Swaroop Kongara (Srichakra Polyplast (India) Pvt Ltd).
