I recently read "The Geek Way" by Andrew McAFEE and was struck by his provocative question: why are we the only species to launch spaceships? The answer, he argues, lies not in our intelligence but in our "Human Ultrasocial" nature. We learn from each other and build upon that knowledge over generations, a trait that has its own trade-offs. He continues, to bond, we've learned to present ourselves with a natural "overconfidence," even when there's no evidence to support it. McAFEE invites us to rethink the corporate excess of controls and the pursuit of prestige, which often result in a heavy management system and complex approval layers. These, in turn, slow down processes and hinder business results. It's a thought-provoking book with many insights on how to overcome these challenges, but I won't spoil it for you... I'm reflecting on what to do differently to increase science in my thoughts and processes, speed, ownership, openness. Have you read it? Any interesting insights?
