The Future of Corporate Security: A Shift in Talent Our latest study reveals a significant trend: the demand for traditional backgrounds in military, law enforcement, and government intelligence is declining within corporate security. Data from SI Placement and The Clarity Factory shows that while 80% of older security professionals have public sector experience, only 59% of younger professionals do. CSOs increasingly prioritize business and organizational skills over a public sector career. This shift reflects the evolving needs of modern organizations. https://buff.ly/47WvXRC #CorporateSecurity #Talent #Recruitment #Skills #FutureOfWork #SIPlacement #ClarityFactory

One of the most interesting and significant changes we saw in our study on the future of talent in corporate security is the shift away from traditional backgrounds in military, law enforcement and government intelligence. Data from SI Placement and The Clarity Factory shows that while 80% of those 55 years and over have public sector experience, this drops to 59% for those 44 years and under. CSOs increasingly value business and organizational skills over a public sector career, and we are likely to see this trend deepen. We also found that survey respondents 55 years and over were four times more likely (61%) than those 44 years and under (16%) to agree that former government background is essential in corporate security. Read our study, Corporate Security: Securing Future Talent, and let us know your feedback. There will be some upcoming major changes within Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) that have occurred over the last week and I wanted to share the news with you all: 1) HSI was recently granted “direct hire” authority which will allow us to cut through the red tape of the hiring process, to hire those with the essentials skills needed for the ever changing world of global investigations. 2) Yesterday, HSI implemented new career progression guidance that lays out the expectations of GS 14, GS 15, and SES leadership to include time limits in field and HQ positions. It also addresses foreign postings and internal rotations, as well as OPR and OFTP positions. This clearly lays out the path ahead for our current and next generation of leaders. Succession planning is key to the success of any organization. 3) HSI finally has received approval for stand alone branding and the www.HSI.gov website launched today. Anyone that has ever worked a criminal investigation will tell you that immigration authority or enforcement of Title 8 is a very powerful tool. HSI will continue to utilize this authority but hopefully, we will no longer be hampered by local and state law enforcement who are prohibited or reluctant to work with “Immigration.”

Industry concerns in the private sector include use of contract work to exploit employee-like circumstances, poor pay and long hours, and general mismanagement of security organizations. To combat these issues, PS orgs must hire good talent, compensate them well, and drive positive cultures that make officers feel valued. At FMG, we work closely with security firms to ensure their cultures are optimized and their officers feel appreciated. Safety is most attainable when officers feel supported. civtac.org feeneymanagement.org #privatesecurity #privatesecurity #security #consulting #securityconsulting #managementconsulting

Article from a few months ago that I just came across. Still relevant as recruitment/retention are issues among military and we see similar things within LE. You get a sense of concerns from the organization and ground level VS the politician. Applicants are told approx 18-24 months to handle their application… About 15,000 of 21,000 permanent residents applying to the regular forces have walked away while waiting. #permanentresident #loyalty #oath Isn’t that good? You can’t wait a short 18-24 months from the comfort of your home, how are you going to do a 6 month deployment in horrible conditions? How will you give 20+ years to a profession that will kick you, both mentally and physically? I know cops who waited several years to get into their services. Makes me wonder if people are there for the right reasons. Meanwhile, the reasons given for the length of background checks are completely reasonable. #realitycheck #CareerOrCalling Brodie- “At the end of the day, we have to be a combat-capable force ready to fight tonight, and so standards matter,” Brodie said. “And when you’re dealing with sensitive military equipment in a national security environment, those factors are really important.” #standards #nationalsecurity Although if Defence Minister Blair 🙄 has any say it’s all about getting a vote: “Blair said the recruitment process has to move faster. He said he’s asked his department to look at allowing permanent residents to serve on a probationary basis while they wait for their security checks to be completed.” #JustANumber #YourWorth #replaceable 🤔 Hmm, what could go wrong? This is a problem of many facets and was started long ago. You don’t fix it overnight Minister. #DoDSkillBridge program compliance… 1️⃣ No Federal entity may be billed for any #SkillBridge work at any time. Period This includes all sibling Departments to the DoD (i.e. DHS, State Dept, DoJ, etc) AND subordinate Agencies (i.e. Marshals Service, CBP, FBI, etc) Your State, Local, and private contracts may be a different story. I encourage you to have your lawyers analyze the fine print. 2️⃣ No service member may execute work on a DoD-funded contract while participating in a #DoDSkillBridge opportunity with your org. They must remain in a training status only 3️⃣ The rules for what an enlisted member can do while on Terminal Leave and what an Officer can do while on Terminal Leave also differ greatly. Have questions about DoD compliance? Let’s talk. Calendar link in the comments.

So I got to my armed security post around 12:45, which is 15 minutes early. As I was driving I got the results back from this morning's test for a civilian, non-sworn/commissioned position with LVMPD. I failed. By TWO points. A 68/70. And that was just THRESHOLD to pass - not even being competitive and whatnot, we were told only the top scorers would move on, so those 2 points probably wouldn't have cut it regardless. But honestly? I'm ok with that. After listening to the "day in the life" presentation before the actual written exam, I was already re-thinking it and going "hrmmmm, maybe this isn't for me" Lesson here is to always keep your options open, but never be afraid of rejection. I'm at least proud my resume (thank you Sam Struan, once again!) is at least up to snuff to be NOTICED by the most major department in Clark County. I at LEAST passed the resume screening and was one of 130 people allowed to move forward to have sat at LVMPD-MLK HQ today to even TAKE that test. The position was not for me, I know that now. I had thought it as the LVMPD Sergeant in Charge of Day Shift gave his little presentation this AM, me receiving "the news" - it only solidifies my thought process of "hey Mike rethink this..." This was for Fusion Watch Specialist by the way, working out of the Clark County Counterterrorism Fusion Center. The specific role isn't for me I found out before actually picking up the pencil to take the written. If you've ever watched Blue Bloods, I thought this was gonna be like a CompStat type role, compiling data to find trends and perform admin work for Clark County's Real-Time Fusion CT Center (say inputting armed travel for officers into NLETS for TSA and what have you, that type of admin). THAT'S the type of work I would LOVE to get into. If I ever get to dip my toes back into the law enforcement world, I want to help on the data side of things. That's more me nowadays - I'm an Ops Room guy, I want to help the bigger picture. Onward to better things after this denial! I have my own business to start and attend to after all! ;)
