💭 Imagine a world where #equality isn’t a dream but a reality 🌐 🌎 In our mission towards more equal and inclusive societies, one resource stands out: Our Inequality Solutions Portal, a digital hub packed with innovative ideas from around the globe, all aimed at tackling inequality head-on. 💡 Curated by the Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies, the Inequality Solutions Portal isn’t just a repository of successful ideas and policies; it’s a rallying call to action for change and a roadmap towards a fairer, more inclusive future for all 🌍👩🏾🤝👩🏼. Recently, our team at the NYU Center on International Cooperation (CIC) organized a hybrid discussion chaired by our Senior Program Officer Roshni Menon, PhD with women representatives from the Bangsamoro working towards #peace and justice in Mindanao, the second-largest island in the Philippines 🇵🇭. Their work and efforts notably address historical injustices and economic disparities to build lasting peace 🕊️. One aspect discussed was the vital role of women in achieving a lasting and sustainable #peacebuilding process. Their involvement at all levels of society is critical to making progress. Moreover, the group emphasized the importance of learning from one another, drawing on lessons from successful peace processes in places like Belfast and Colombia. 🌏 In the current international context, this exchange was a productive discussion on the complexities of the peacebuilding process and the importance of maintaining an optimistic outlook towards its realization. I've had this conversation time and time again about the importance of integrating cultural knowledge and lived experience into the strategic direction of our organisations. There's a significant gap when our voices are not heard, and our perspectives are not considered. If First Nations voices are not seen, listened to, or taken into account, how can you truly know what you are doing? Our unique insights are crucial for developing and implementing strategies that are inclusive and effective. Without our input, the impact of your decisions may not fully address the needs and realities of our communities. Representation goes beyond just having a seat at the table; it means actively listening and valuing the advice and experiences of First Nations people. There's a common misconception that one can show up or send an email and be welcomed by First Nations communities, receiving all the advice and information needed. This assumption overlooks the depth and complexity of these relationships. Building trust and genuine connections with First Nations communities requires time, respect, and understanding. It’s not just about extracting information; it’s about engaging with the community, honouring their protocols, and recognising your work's impact on them. True collaboration comes from a place of mutual respect and commitment. White Dot Solidarity Network (WSN). A quarter of the world's population is aged between 15 and 35. The Asia- Pacific region houses 60% of that population. In a world which is now fraught with conflicts, climate crisis, poverty, displacement, natural disasters, instability, staring into a future of uncertainty, young people have the most to lose. Our leaders have realized how important it is to include youth voices at decision making tables and yet the steps taken for youth inclusion have fallen short. Youth voices, especially from the margins remain absent in all important spaces and opportunities created for young leaders, remain inaccessible to those who don't have the socio-economic capital that is taken to be the norm. The White Dot Solidarity Network has been created to fill this gap, with the belief that it is only through the true and meaningful inclusion of diverse youth voices that sustainable peace can be achieved. The "White Dot" stands for the safe, peaceful space we aim to create, which we envision as a place for growth, learning, connecting and building solidarities.
