?Did you miss it? It is not too late! ILTS and ESOT jointly organised a webinar as part of a two-part webinar series on diversity and inclusion. Gender Disparities in Transplantation Chair: Fernanda Ortiz // Speakers: Chiara Becchetti, Anette Melk Webinar objectives: Sex- and gender-based disparities exist in adult and paediatric kidney, liver, lung, heart, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. There are not only biological, but also psychological and socioeconomic issues that contribute to disparity in outcomes as well as to inequitable access to transplantation for women and girls. Ospedale San Raffaele integrates basic and clinical research through a translational approach, meaning that lab discoveries translate quickly into clinical therapies and clinical needs drive basic research. In 1997 Professor Chiara Bonini studied allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (allo-BMT) and how donor lymphocytes play a central therapeutic role in both graft-versus-leukemia (GvL) and immune reconstitution. Her data advanced this field, by showing that genetic manipulation of donor lymphocytes may increase the efficacy and safety of allo-BMT and expand its application to a larger number of patients. An outstanding work that still resonates today, for example in the field of CAR-T cells, for researchers and patients! #GruppoSanDonato #GSDHealthMag #GSDMilestones #GSDHistory
