Here I talk about waxcaps, a great type of mushroom to know about in November and December because they tend to appear late in the season when it gets colder, and are a slow growing mushroom. They keep well in the fridge too! While most waxcaps are either too rare or too small to pick, the snowy waxcap and the meadow waxcap are worth foraging. The meadow waxcap (Cuphophyllus pratensis) is found in grasslands from September to December, favouring established, grazed grasslands that haven't been treated with pesticides or fertilisers. It’s a pleasant tasting mushroom and found at a time when the appearance of many other mushrooms starts to tail off. #foraging #wildfood #mushrooms #fungi #nature

🍅✨ Embracing the sweetness of quality soil! 🌱🔬 Today, I whipped out my pocket refractometer to do some Brix testing on a few tomatoes. The results? Astonishing! My homegrown organic biological tomatoes scored 10% to 38% higher in sugar content compared to store-bought conventional ones. 📈🌿 Why does this matter? Brix testing isn’t just about numbers—it’s a window into soil health and plant vitality. When we nurture our soil with biological methods, like using Grozome premium craft compost to boost beneficial microbes, we see the difference in flavor, texture, and nutrient density. It’s proof that a little care in our gardens can yield amazing results on our plates. 🍽️✨ I hope you can see too the practicality of Brix testing and the joy of growing food that’s not just good for us, but tastes incredible too! 🌟👩🌾 Ditch the toxic chemicals and grow your own clean food. 📸 In the photo, we see boxes of mushrooms with quality that leaves much to be desired. The mushrooms have a gray tint, rough surface, and flat caps. Additionally, improper calibration in the boxes is noticeable. ❓ The causes of such defects can be various. A gray tint often results from improper watering and prolonged exposure to a humid environment. In winter, this can also be due to a large amount of dry air entering the chamber from outside. 🔍 Roughness and flat caps indicate excessively dry conditions in the chamber or excessive ventilation, leading to significant evaporation from the mushroom surfaces. A lack of water in the peat also plays a significant role, especially for first wave mushrooms. ⚠️ These problems are often encountered on many farms. If you want to avoid such situations and improve the quality of your products, I am ready to offer my consultation. Experience and knowledge of all the nuances of mushroom cultivation will help you achieve better results. 📞 Contact us for detailed consultation and to improve the processes on your farm! #UMDIS #mushrooms #champignons #farm #agriconsulting #productquality

For this months sow & grow feature, we are promoting sprouting broccoli! 🥦 This hardy crop is packed full of nutrients and produces tasty spears which are perfect for grilling, boiling and steaming. Sow between March & June in small pots before transferring outside once the plants are hardy enough to be handled. Bulky organic matter is essential to improve moisture retention and texture. We recommend added a layer of our woodland mulch. Keep the soil moist and remove weeds to reduce competition. Your broccoli should be ready for harvest between early spring and late spring. Give your broccoli the best conditions with our woodland mulch: https://lnkd.in/e_JyQxaF #SowAndGrow #SproutingBroccoli

[◉¯] In the photo, we see a shelf in a mushroom grow room. The shelf holds compost for growing Agaricus mushrooms, which is covered with a layer of casing soil. 👀 However, it is important to note that the loading was done too evenly, and the structure of the casing appears too fine. On the surface of the shelf, there is a visible wave in the casing, indicating that the ruffling speed was very high. 💧 This fine casing structure makes it very challenging to water properly, as the structure tends to wash away. As a result, the mushrooms often come out very dirty. Additionally, there is very little CACing on this shelf, making it difficult to increase the yields. 🤔 I hope the grower understands that it is difficult to work without adequate CACing. Perhaps the compost is of poor quality, and the grower may have chosen not to add CACing to avoid the risk of spreading any potential infection. Such even loading creates further challenges in managing the process efficiently. 🙏 Thanks to UMDIS consultant Iurie Boiciuc for the valuable suggestions. When the seasons change, it's also time to make some changes in your Mini Food Forest. For these two, we replanted the entire Veggie Wall area, as all the previous annuals had completed their cycle. We added different kinds of cabbage, lettuce, radish, arugula, beetroot, broccoli, colliflower and other veggies. As you can see, we didn’t leave empty-handed, as we harvested a full bucket of tomatoes and peppers 😋. In one month we will be already harvesting arugula, lettuce and radish. #regenerativeagriculture #minifoodforest #foodforest #renovation #syntropicfarming #startsmallgobig #maintenance #veggiewall #vegetablegarden

🌱 How to Spot Top-Quality Cocopeat 🌱 Ever wonder if you can judge cocopeat quality just by looking at it? Well, almost! 😄 Sure, you can't just sniff your way to the perfect cocopeat, but with these quick tips, you'll be a pro in no time! 🟤 Color Check: High-quality cocopeat is a uniform light brown. If it’s too dark or discolored... 🚫 Red flag! 👃 Smell Test: It should smell fresh and earthy, like a forest after rain. Sour or moldy? Walk away! 🚶♂️ 🤏 Feel It Out: It should be fluffy and light. Dense and compact? That’s a no-go! 👀 Debris Alert: Watch out for large pieces of bark or debris—those don’t belong in premium cocopeat. But wait, there’s more! Let’s geek out for a second with some metrics: 🌡 pH Level: Aim for 5.5 to 6.5. That’s the perfect acidity for plant growth. 🌱 ⚡ Electrical Conductivity: Keep it below 0.5 mS/cm. Too much salt is bad for your plants—just like in your food! 🍟 💪 Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC): Above 40 cmolc/kg = nutrient-holding powerhouse! Using low-quality cocopeat is like using a dull knife—frustrating and ineffective. So, don’t settle! Make sure your cocopeat meets these standards, and your plants will thank you. 🌻 Happy planting! 🌿 #farmingTips #Cocopeat #SustainableFarming #PlantLove #GroMax

The most commonly asked question I get is, "How much lettuce, greens, and herbs does one device yield?" So we harvested an entire device to demonstrate the impressive quantity (and quality, look closely, no bugs and no need to wash them before eating). Next week we’ll harvest the same amount (but not all at once, just enough for salad for the entire family every day). 🌱 #SustainableAgriculture #HarvestDay #FreshProduce #InnovativeFarming
