A 2 axle truck hauling TDG? just stay home for 3 days, everyone wants you.   3. Assume you won’t pass. Roadcheck is about enforcement, not education.   4. Double check your potential for chicken tickets: ·     is your ELD mounted? ·     do you have paper logs, malfunction instructions and the ELD instructions?   5. Check all lights all the time.   6. Nearly half of lorry drivers are dissatisfied with rest stops, our survey reveals. Transport Focus is bringing together the public and private sector to create long-term solutions to improve safety, facilities and availability. It's Blitz Week for transportation, and it's crucial for safety and compliance! The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) is hosting the International Roadcheck event, partnering with local highway patrol and CMV inspectors for three days of thorough inspections. During this event, tractors, trailers, and drivers are flagged for safety violations, and there are always two new regulation targets. Here's what drivers can expect during DOT Inspection Week 2024: 📅 When: Tuesday, May 14th - Thursday, May 16th 🌎 Where: United States, Canada, Mexico 🚦DOT Checkpoints: Weigh stations, roadsides, temporary inspection sites Inspections will cover various aspects, including: • Tractor Protection Systems: Ensuring these vital systems are in proper working order. • Alcohol and Controlled Substance Possession: Verifying compliance with regulations regarding alcohol and drug possession. May 13 – 19: The annual Roadcheck inspection blitz often leads to many owner-operators taking a week off from work, and that was no different last week. For the ones who didn’t take a vacation, the increase in inspections led to less availability for transportation buyers. This led to huge spikes in load-to-truck ratios on the DAT One network, with national average spot rates up across the board. #datIQ #logistics

🚨 SLOW DOWN, MOVE OVER 🚨 Why isn’t this clear, life-saving message being heard or followed enough? After an inspiring conversation with Craig Mech, President of our American partners at B/A Products Co., last week, I’m left asking: How many more lives have to be lost on the roadside before we all take this seriously? In the U.S., a tower worker (those who attend to recover vehicles and their drivers) lose their life every 6–7 days while assisting stranded motorists—a devastating statistic. Why does this happen? Too often, distracted drivers are responsible, leaving lasting impacts on the families, friends, and communities of these dedicated professionals. B/A Products Co. has been pushing hard for Slow Down, Move Over laws in the U.S., and they've released a powerful video (link below) to underscore the urgency of this message. Just last week, our Director, Simon Scaife CMILT, found himself stranded on the M25. Despite overhead signs warning of the incident, vehicles continued to speed by dangerously close to the tow team, staying in the adjacent traffic lane, not moving over. There is currently a short-haul exception for commercial vehicle drivers who operate within a 150-air-mile radius of the Port of Baltimore. During the webinar, FMCSA explained that the exception “allows a driver to use a time record in place of an electronic or paper Record of Duty Status, provided the specific rule provisions are met.”   This exception is only for short-haul drivers who are dispatched from and return to the same work location each day, according to FMCSA's Stacy Ropp. This exception has strict hours of operation rules for drivers. Drivers must have 10 consecutive hours off-duty after 14 hours on-duty. Drivers who don’t meet the terms of the short-haul exception must complete an RODS per day of operation as soon as the exception no longer applies.
