Guardians of the Agave: Celebrating the Men Who Nurture the Soul of Tequila and Mezcal On International Men’s Day, it is fitting to reflect on the essential role played by men who, day after day, care for and preserve the agave crops—the heart and soul of tequila and mezcal. Their daily labours, marked by patience, skill, and dedication, demonstrate a deep connection with the land and a passion handed down through generations. The men who work with agave are the keepers of a priceless cultural legacy, devoting their days to cultivating and tending a plant that takes years to mature. Each leaf trimmed and every stage of cultivation represents a commitment not merely to the final product, but to tradition, identity, and respect for the natural environment that makes it all possible. In this context, it is not just about sustaining an industry, but about safeguarding the soul of a cultural heritage that elevates Mexico’s presence on the world stage. The daily dedication of these men is fundamental in ensuring the quality and authenticity of every bottle of tequila and mezcal that crosses borders, transforming it into a symbol of pride and excellence. As we honour their work, we recognise that they are more than mere producers; they are guardians of the agave, cultivating not just a plant, but a living legacy that continues to inspire and resonate across generations.

What do tequila producers do for more sustainable production? The tequila sector is at the forefront promoting the first deforestation-free certification, for alcoholic beverages worldwide. The agave used as raw material for tequila production, must be the specie tequilana blue weber variety, must have been cultivated in the territory covered by the denomination of origin, and be registered in the Land Plantation Registry. CRT (Tequila Regulatory Council) created a new requirement to register agave plantations, the certification ARA prevents deforestation of 7,000 hectares in Jalisco, Mexico. ARA (Agave responsable ambiental) projects that by 2027, 100% of the tequila produced, will be “deforestation free”. This is an added value to tequila, the new agave producers should be aware of these measurements, no more agave plantations, where the soil is not the best for the agave growth. For responsible sipping and helping the earth. Salud! #earthday #tequilaculture #agroindustry #consumerawareness #qualitynotquantity

🌱 Espadín Agave: The Backbone of Mezcal Production 🌱 Espadín is the go-to agave for mezcal making, and for good reason. It’s incredibly adaptable, thriving in different climates and soils, especially in Oaxaca. That’s why it's the most cultivated because it can handle it all. With a quicker growth cycle of around 7-10 years, Espadín gives us what we need, faster than some of the wilder agaves out there. Plus, it’s loaded with sugars, which means more mezcal with each batch, keeping things flowing and efficient. And let’s be honest, Espadín is just easier to work with. It doesn’t need as much special care as other varieties, which helps keep production smooth and costs down. It’s the heart of what we do at Puercoleón, crafting mezcal that’s authentic, accessible, and steeped in tradition. #Mezcal #AgaveEspadín #Puercoleon #Oaxaca #MezcalCraft #SustainableProduction

[LANSON COMMITMENT] In addition to owning a sixteen-hectare vineyard that is farmed biodynamically, Maison Lanson is committed to sustainable viticulture both for its own vineyard and for its supplies by supporting its partner growers in their transition towards certified viticulture through the founding of the first collective structure by a Champagne house, in 2018. In accordance with the requirements defined by the Comité Champagne and the Ministry of Agriculture, which certify the Viticulture Durable en Champagne (Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne – VDC) and Haute Valeur Environnementale (High Environmental Value – HVE) labels, Maison Lanson is forging a path of support based on exchange, sharing and the commitment of each person towards virtuous practices that are mindful of biodiversity and societal and environmental standards. Since 2021, Maison Lanson is a leading light in its commitment to CSR, with key actions in the environmental, social and economic fields, all reflected in a clear vision entitled “Terroirs, People, Wines”. More recently, Maison Lanson joined IWCA - International Wineries for Climate Action, a joint international programme featuring some forty estates in nine countries, the aim of which is to reduce the carbon footprint of the wine industry by sharing best practices and drawing up an international action plan. Maison Lanson is one of the first French estates and the first Champagne house to be part of the program, thereby becoming a leader in sustainable development. This commitment led it to conduct a carbon footprint calculation in 2022 and implement a low-carbon strategy from 2023. 📸 Nicolas DEMOULIN Enjoy Lanson with moderation. #ChampagneLanson #BlackCréation #LansonCraft #Lanson #Champagne #FreshTouch

Did you know that temperature can make a difference in the final character of our bulk aged rum? Oak responds differently to temperature changes, allowing the alcohol to penetrate the wood fibers and absorb its flavors. During warmer days, the process of extracting compounds intensifies. The wood breathes and influences how the alcohol interacts with the barrel. In Valle del Cauca, Colombia, the tropical climate is a key player in this process. Here, temperature changes allow our American oak to express its full potential, contributing to a more robust and marked profile. This unique environment, together with our sugar cane grown on our own land, allows each barrel to become an authentic reflection of the flavor of our region. Thus, the Cauca Valley is not only the home of our distillery, but also an essential ingredient that adds character and distinction to each batch of our AGED BULK RUM.
