CA's Transformative Climate Communities is a proven model for delivering funding to communities most impacted by climate change, allowing them to build power and resilience - but in light of the state's budget deficit, TCC is at risk, threatening the state's progress on climate equity. In our latest blog by Deirel Marquez and Amy Castañeda, we share insights from communities on the ground that have benefitted from TCC funding, demonstrating the transformative potential the program holds. Understanding this real-world impact is essential to making the case to legislators that programs like TCC are ESSENTIAL to CA's climate future. Read more here: https://bit.ly/45Ex3A4

As I prepare to head for Glasgow and the ATCM Summer School 2024 Innovation in Town and City Climate Action next week, the CLES 'Our Places, Our Planet' study makes interesting reading. In it they have 'revealed five national policy barriers to delivering climate action that could support the growth of more inclusive local economies. The recommendations to overcome these barriers outline the changes needed from the government at Westminster to enable local and combined authorities to deliver climate action at the scale and pace required. Put together they set out a roadmap for seizing the opportunity to reshape our local economies so that they build community wealth while delivering vital local climate action.' https://lnkd.in/egshKzmV

In contrast to Blake Francis's stance that GHG emisssions harms and benefits must be weighed on a case-by-case basis with a bias towards justice, Posner and Weisbach's provocative book on the subject takes a slightly more machiavellian approach, focusing on the world as it is rather than as it ought to be. They argue that climate justice must prioritize pragmatic solutions over idealistic moral frameworks in order to achieve the ultimate goal of overcoming climate change. To explore their perspective further, check out their book Climate Change Justice. https://lnkd.in/g6ZK7eA9 #cleanenergy #renewableenergy #energytransition #energyfuture

The paper discusses the contradictions young people face regarding climate change: while they deeply care about the planet, they grow up in a culture that promotes pollution, and the climate crisis is increasingly seen as an existential threat. The paper details a participatory foresight workshop facilitated by UNICEF, where young participants used the Three Horizons approach to share their visions for the future, discuss innovations for climate action, and highlight critical research questions. The goal is to document these perspectives, magnify the aspirations and concerns of young people, and identify the next steps for collaborative climate action.
