The correct diagnose is a challenge and patients experience a diagnostic odyssey? 🤯 Sounds like a rare disease, but we are really talking about functional gastrointestinal (GI) disorders such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Functional Dyspepsia. To support the Gastro-Liga's awareness Gastrointestinal Health Day on Nov 2nd, here are some facts and figures: 💡 Functional gastrointestinal (GI) disorders affect around 10-20% of people worldwide, making them relevant public health issues. 💡 Functional GI disorders don’t show clear structural abnormalities in standard tests, making them harder to identify. Symptoms like abdominal pain, bloating or altered bowel habits often overlap with other conditions, requiring a series of exclusionary tests for diagnosis. 💡 As “invisible illnesses,” they are frequently misunderstood or stigmatized by both healthcare professionals and the general public, further limiting the quality of life of patients. Did you know that Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is more common in women than men? Its symptoms often overlap with chronic pain disorders like fibromyalgia, chronic pelvic pain, and migraines, and can worsen during menstruation. 💊 In a small pilot study, 76% of IBS patients experienced more pain-free days and overall symptom relief with Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN). Another study found LDN to have mostly tolerable side effects while helping those with gastrointestinal disorders like diarrhea, constipation, and inflammatory bowel disease. Consult with our pharmacist and your provider to explore the potential of LDN to help manage IBS. #IBSAwareness #LDN #GastroHealth #FibromyalgiaSupport

Knowing the ways that endometriosis affects the rest of the body is crucial to treating it holistically and taking preventative measures to reduce its known associated conditions. Many with endometriosis have low BMI/body mass index 📉 and there is an increased rate of eating disorders seen. Secondly, endometriosis can cause neurological changes 🧠 that increase one’s sensitivity to pain 🤕 and also cause chronic fatigue 😴, anxiety 😧 and depression😔. Lastly, a connection has been found between endometriosis and development of autoimmune diseases. 🔬🩸The research that has connected endometriosis to these conditions is from genetic research on inflammatory markers in the blood and how their levels are varied between those with and without endometriosis. This inflammation creates smaller environments of inflammation in organs and tissue throughout the whole body causing dysfunction in other areas outside of the pelvis. What does this mean for those with endometriosis? Every women will have her own unique set of symptoms. Treat the body as a whole, not the pelvis in isolation. Autoimmune diseases can present a wide range of symptoms, from mild to severe, and it’s not always easy to identify them right away. While each autoimmune condition is unique, many share common symptoms, such as: - Fatigue - Joint pain & swelling - Skin issues - Abdominal pain or digestive problems - Recurring fever - Swollen glands Diagnosis may be challenging because these signs often mimic other conditions, and there’s no single test for autoimmune disorders. Managing these symptoms is crucial for improving quality of life. If you’re experiencing persistent pain, inflammation, or other symptoms, talk to your healthcare provider and our pharmacist for guidance and possible treatment options, including low-dose naltrexone. #AutoimmuneDiseases #ChronicIllnessAwareness #LDN #LowDoseNaltrexone #TreatmentOptions

Thyroid Eye Disease often quiets ("inactivates") as inflammation subsides. However, signs and symptoms may persist, as a recent study found. 📍The study found that the most common signs/symptoms of TED: 🔹 ocular dryness/grittiness: 77% 🔹bulging of the eyes: 56% 🔹excessive tearing: 43% 🔹soft tissue edema: 42% 🔹conjunctival redness: 24% 🔹decreased vision: 24% 🔹eye muscle involvement: 22% 📍As symptoms are complex, patients' quality of life is impacted by the disease. Remember: 📌The symptoms of TED might persist after TED has "quieted," continuing to impact a patient's quality of life and mental health. 📌Moderate-to-severe TED may have persisting symptoms, regardless of its inflammatory status.
