You may run a survey on the subject in Lithuania. Openly disclosed salaries are enforced by law. It is really easier to browse through the job ads with salaries. However, older employees notice that newbies get higher starting salaries. No apocalypses has happened yet. :)

Although the UK is not part of the EU, in my opinion, the new EU Pay Transparency Directive, once in force, will also have an impact on the UK. I think it is just a matter of time before salaries will have to be transparent.
