The Jobs Foundation’s Post

Back when Matthew Elliott and I were first discussing the creation of the Jobs Foundation, one of the driving factors for doing so was our passionate belief in the power that businesses have in improving people’s lives through job creation and training. Now, a year on from our public launch, my belief in business is stronger than ever.    As our Advisory Council member Luke Johnson says, “Jobs don’t just fall from the sky – they appear because companies are created by risk takers. Jobs only exist because they are helping that business to progress. If you crush the private sector, you crush jobs. Without jobs, you don’t have civilisation.”   Over the past year, I’ve been so excited to see the growth of our Business Council, now nearing a thousand supporters, and they’ve given me the chance to travel up and down the country to visit some of the inspirational businesses that shape people’s lives. From Thatchers Cider Company Ltd in Somerset, to Pickerings Lifts in Stockton, these businesses are at the heart of their local areas, giving people opportunities that they would never otherwise have. The business leaders that form our Business Council are a constant reminder of how we must cherish businesses for their contribution, and how we need to give the support to business leaders and entrepreneurs that they deserve to create even more opportunities for people.    If you’re an entrepreneur or business leader and share my belief in the power of business, we’d love to have you onboard our (free and private) Business Council.
